[2024 Chiang Mai Stay] Travel Guide for Tamarind Village (Updated Sep)
Jewel in Chiang mai🧘🏻♀️
This is a lovely boutique hotel, nestled discreetly in the heart of Chiang Mai old city, close to Phra Sign Temple and the Sunday Walking Street. It has a very peaceful atmosphere with well kept courtyard gardens, a majestic 200-year old Tamarind tree surrounded by lush greens, beautiful outdoor pool and wonderful spa.
I booked a 2.5 hours spa session and LOVED it. Khun Oil, my therapist was so incredibly amazing. I loved the oil massage. So healing! A wondeful place to unwind and reset. I would recommend calling ahead to book. They have an array of services available ranging from traditional Lanna spa experience, body scrub and oil massage for 60mins, 90mins, 150mins.
Definitely recommended.

A tranquil haven amidst the hustle and bustle of the ancient city, the Chiang Mai hotel
The entrance to the Rawang Country Hotel is a long green bamboo forest, and there is a more than 200-year-old tree in the courtyard. The hotel is on the east side of the old city, just a 5-minute walk from the Tha Phae Gate, and the Sunday Night Market is right at the bamboo forest entrance. A 10-minute walk will take you to Tha Phae Gate, and we just caught up with the night market, truly experiencing the tranquility amidst the liveliness. Right outside the hotel is the famous blue noodle.
The hotel environment is very good, especially like that big tree! The reason for choosing this hotel was also because of this tree, the overall style is mainly Lanna style, using a lot of bamboo, wood, and other elements, simple yet elegant. The room is smaller than I imagined, the interior decoration is quite classic, disposable items are not provided, such as toothpaste. However, their bath products smell really good! The hotel's service and accommodation experience are very good! There are also a series of free activities to participate in, that day we joined a walk around the old city, with someone leading to visit some temples, and also introducing some Michelin restaurants and cafes, in the afternoon we experienced painting umbrellas, there should be different activities every day. Breakfast is buffet style, although the choices are not many, but the products are quite good.

A Spirit-filled Hotel in Chiang Mai
A niche hotel guarded by a tamarind tree in Chiang Mai, I have two particular favorites that I've revisited.
One is Raya, and the other is Tamarind Village.
The design styles are completely different, yet they share the same owner.
I've introduced Raya before, now let me talk about Tamarind Village.
This is a well-established hotel that has been open for twenty-one years.
It was designed by a local Thai designer.
The location of the hotel is excellent, right in the center of the old city.
The entrance is obscured by a bamboo grove and is unassuming.
But once inside, it is quiet and comfortable, very much a relaxing holiday spot.
Mostly, you'll find foreign families staying here.
The hotel's courtyard features a huge tamarind tree.
I don't know its age, but it's definitely centuries old.
The canopy shelters the guest rooms and the yard, and the trunk is unbelievably thick.
In the morning, the sunlight filtering through the leaves, casting beautiful patterns on the ground, is truly stunning.
I've noticed that many hotels in Chiang Mai have a beautiful tree.
And the designers cleverly integrate the building with the tree.
Giving the best spot in the hotel to the tree, for everyone to admire.
Whether it's the atrium of Raya, the fields of Four Seasons, or the courtyard of Tamarind Village.
It's all the same.
The hotel rooms do show signs of age, and the soundproofing is not great.
The size is a drawback, with suites only about 50 square meters.
But everything that's needed is there, well-maintained, and clean.
A hotel that has been polished by time has a special texture.
Here, you can see that many designers from China have come to 'borrow' ideas.
A very familiar feeling.
The service at the hotel is really good.
They even helped to deliver something we left behind to the next hotel.
The breakfast is also decent, not as lavish as Raya's, but still good.
The price of this hotel is not very expensive, with basic rooms just over a thousand yuan.
I've found that hotels in Thailand pursue different things than those in China.
They don't chase after Dyson hair dryers, branded toiletries, thread count of bed sheets...
Instead, they offer just the right service, a vacation atmosphere, and design.
Tamarind Village really achieves this.
If you want to stay in a hotel with a sense of design and a holiday atmosphere,
In a great location, convenient for getting around,
And you don't mind the soundproofing and room size,
In the old city, Tamarind Village is definitely the first choice.
A hotel guarded by a big tree, filled with spirit🌳

Where to stay in Chiang Mai, Thailand
【A secret sanctuary in the heart of historic Chiang Mai】
Tamarind Village is an unique and charming boutique property that nestles in the heart of historic Chiang Mai. Surrounded by ancient temples and quaint shopping streets, it takes its name from the magnificent 200-year-old tamarind tree that shelters the hotel in a shady embrace.
We stayed in one of the Lanna Rooms. Lanna Rooms offer first and second floor garden courtyard views and are decorated in a style that blends perfectly with the hotel’s theme and setting. Decorative elements such as hand-made lacquer boxes and embroidered tribal caps add to the charm and reflect the attention to detail found throughout the hotel.
Tamarind Village features a spa, an outdoor pool and a pool side restaurant - Ruen. The property is a 10-minute walk from Night Bazaar and riverside restaurants. Chiang Mai’s famous “Sunday Walking Street” is right in front of the property. Nearby attractions include Wat Chedi Luang. And Tha Phae Gate is within walking distance.
My partner and myself love this place very much - friendly staff, excellent service and fresh serving breakfast, by the pool.
