Temper is famous for their various types of steak and usage of smoke-infused techniques to give the dishes that unique aroma. They have a dry ager cabinet to dry age their steaks which is not common in many restaurants. You enter the place, choose the type and weight of the steak for that day and please get their foie gras sauce to go with the steak. That is the highlight imo! Their steak also comes with smoke infused salad which tastes super good. End the meal off with the temper signature smoked cheesecake which again you can taste that smoke infused aroma. #familytrips2024 When we walked past Hoki Cake Bakery in Mount Austin, we smelled the yummy cakes. We had to try their famous double cheese cake, and it was so good! It's not too sweet and very soft. They were out of chocolate lava cake, but we'll get it next time. The sponge cake was delicious and a must-have. We were surprised that the banana cake was even better than the famous one in town. The egg tart was just okay, though. Hoki Cake Bakery is the first branch of a famous bakery from Taiwan. I like the name of the shop, Hoki means Blessing. But be ready for crowds because Mount Austin is always busy, even on weekdays. There are lots of other famous restaurants there too. The crowd is not as much as before but still require a bit of waiting time if you come during peak hours. Their recommended dish is their crispy seafood porridge (pao fan) and you can choose which type seafood and soup base. They also have many other dishes which are popular too example their charcoal tofu, lobster, omelet and they serve a variety of drinks too. This restaurant also have outdoor seating but usually only open at night for outdoor seating. I prefer to sit inside, not so hot and a nicer environment.

There is also no need to make reservations and you can choose which art studio to go too. Add in the spa places here for massage and relaxation after art class is so relaxing. There is thing to note is that the art studios are usually on the second floor, and you have to use staircase to go up. You can find their price list on the ground floor too. This area is not as busy as Citysquare and you can also find hotels here too. So you can enjoy a lovely weekend at Mount Austin.

There are so many nicer cafes here than at Jalan Trus area which is nearby CitySquare JB. To come here, it is easier to take a taxi or private hire because the public transport is not so convenient here. At this area, all the cafes have their own space and along the same street. It is not inside a building so there are no air-condition once you exit the cafe. Besides cafe, there are also many art studio, restaurant and spa. It is awesome for a quick weekend getaway.

Most of their soup contains mala which is spicy. I was here at the Xiao Long Kan 小龙坎老火锅 hot pot restaurant just outside Mount Austin waterpark. It is a traditional looking Chinese hot pot restaurant and there are many dragon motifs. I did not realize they are close after lunch for event, so I did not get to eat. However, they close at midnight so I can come back next time. Better check with the kitchen on their soup ingredients in case you have any allergies.

Ah Ma Teochew Kuih cafe has just recently opened a new branch at mount austin and good news for me, they serve pretty good kueh kuehs and food. Another plus point, the cafe is huge, clean and has a modern industrial design. Many of their kueh kuehs are worth the mention. For instance, their gula melaka steam cake is in a cute heart shape and it has a nice sweet coconuty taste. Their muah chee was soft, chewy and comes with lots of peanuts. Another kueh to try is their fried taro bun which was crispy and had a great taro stuffing. Don't forget to order their signature ah ma milk tea too, goes well with all the sweet treats. Curry noodles was another great option for a heavier meal. A traditional push cart with kueh kuehs are also sold for take aways, remember to grab some along the way!
