The newly completed #TainanMainLibrary in 2021 is located in the Dongqiao redevelopment area behind the Yongkang Artillery School. It stands like a giant in this new developing area. Designed by Taiwanese and Dutch architects, the high ceiling and wooden grilles with interlaced light and shadow remind people of #TainanDayuanCrown Plaza Hotel. Coincidentally, Tainan was once a Dutch colony. The high circular atrium in the lobby displays "Guest of Wind" created by British artist Paul Cocksedge. White papers are freely flying in the air, and the experience is different when viewed from different heights on the first, second and third floors. The new Tainan Library aims to be a comprehensive and research-oriented urban public library. Not only is the spatial design unique, but even the themes and furniture of each floor are very special. The floors are connected by a big red staircase. The first floor is the book lending counter and the senior citizen books and newspaper area. The second floor has a comics section for teenagers. The third floor is the K-study area and discussion room. Tainan's new main library on the 4th floor houses a cultural salon cafe, the UBUNTU Bookstore, featuring streamlined fashionable design that fully utilizes the elongated space. Natural light is brought in through floor-to-ceiling windows, with the shadows of the grilles outside creating a scattered pattern. The hollowed-out book wall is ingeniously interwoven with white ropes, serving as the backdrop wall, and the entrance is also crafted with white ropes to evoke the image of an archway, exuding elegance and grandeur. The overall space is comfortable and cozy, making it a perfect spot for hipsters to pause and take photos. Just ordering a cup of coffee allows you to enjoy the ambiance. While the entire library environment is already very conducive to reading and resting, if you want to have a cup of coffee or a snack, then UBUNTU Bookstore is the place to go.
