Who knew there was an island in Japan where you could swim with dolphins!
[Tokyo: Mikurajima]
When you're a child, your dream is to swim with dolphins. That's not unusual, is it? 🐬
But there's a place where you can swim with wild dolphins, and it's in Tokyo, Japan 🤭
Even though it's Tokyo, it's not a city because it's a remote island, but you can get there by taking a boat from Takeshiba Pier, an 8-minute walk from Hamamatsucho Station 🛳
There is only one boat per day, and it takes 7.5 hours, but still, Tokyo is Tokyo 🗼
Indian bottlenose dolphins live around Mikurajima, and the chances of meeting wild dolphins are said to be among the best in Japan 😍
You can't touch the dolphins, but this is a place where you can make your dream of swimming with them come true!

Miyakejima Dolphin Sanctuary — A Magical Adventure with Dolphins
Following our guide Fumihiko, a seasoned diver with countless experiences in Miyakejima, we headed to this dreamlike sanctuary for dolphins. Fumihiko shared his wisdom with a touch of humor, "If you flail around too much in the water, you’ll look like an overly excited dog charging at the dolphins." His playful words drew chuckles from us, even as we struggled to contain our excitement, dopamine practically flooding our systems.
As we sat on the boat’s edge, tense yet thrilled, Kenshi-san’s voice called out, “Junbi!” signaling us to get ready. We fixed our gaze on the dolphins’ path, poised to jump in. At the word “Go!” we dove into the sea, each silently wishing for a moment of curiosity from these graceful marine creatures.

Japan 🇯🇵 Mikura Island where dolphins coexist
The waters around Mikurajima are a dolphin habitat. The first time I swam with dolphins was on Mikurajima, and every time I encounter dolphins, I can appreciate their elegance and playfulness. Starting from bustling Tokyo, a six-hour boat ride will take you to the world's best place for dolphins and humans to coexist.
The bottlenose dolphins live very leisurely here. There are about 120 of them.
Cute dolphins live on this island. They were very friendly and open to human presence, and I had the opportunity to get close and observe them playing freely. Here, humans and nature coexist in harmony, which makes me feel so happy and moved. 🌊🐬#freediving
