[2025 Sekudai Attraction] Travel Guide for Sutera Mall (Updated Apr)

#malaysia I was over at Sutera mall and decided to hop over to this beautiful cafe called Bawang Cha Ji in Johor Bahru. Which kinda blew my mind how pretty it is compared to typical cafes or stores in JB. It felt like I have step into another world. Almost like in Kyoto. Because it was a Monday the cafe was really quiet too. I would have brought my laptop along next time. While Chagee is still quite expensive in Malaysia, I think if it’s dining in at this cafe, I would gladly pay for the price and environment. Because this cafe is unlike those togo shops. (Cafe is outside the mall.)

On first glance, you would ask yourself why would there be so much youngsters hanging around an old mall like Sutera mall, but you would also quickly realise that they are all heading outside. Right behind Sutera mall is the chill day night market, where you can find shops selling that are from across South east Asia like exotic meat, xxl fried chicken and coconut ice cream just to name a few

This place is located at Sutera at JB- Hock Kee Kopitiam Love the ambiance of this place! This place is so spacious, bright and clean. There are wide variety of food options as well, and I think the prices here are pretty reasonable! I’ve tried quite a bit and will list down what is the must try! 1) Fried mee Siam with Rendang- the fried mee Siam is the best dish out of all from this place! The fried bee hoon is nicely done, not too dry and it’s best to eat with the Sambal! Rendang is good as well, tasty. 2) The charcoal polo bun with kaya. This is nice as well, love the butter in between the bun and the kaya is served at the side, you can dip however much you want. 3) Portuguese egg tart. Can you see how thick is this egg tart? The filling is so smooth and creamy, not too sweet as well, the crust is very crispy. Can taste the layering of the crust. Oh and they also have a wide variety of vegetarian food as well. #newyearnewtrip It is always a big celebration for the Chinese new year and what better way than to buy everything at one stop. At Sutera Mall in Johor Bahru Malaysia, there is a massive Chinese new year fair that is ongoing, with over a hundred stalls selling your Chinese new year goodies, snacks, cookies and decorations. Many famous bakeries can be seen selling pineapple tarts, and even different brands of bak kwa, dried goods and nuts. There is a festive cheer in the atosphere here and shops are opened till as late as 11.30pm. Chinese new year clothes and apparels can be purchased at this fair too. I love the convenience of this fair, with everything that I need for Chinese new year, I can get it here at sutera mall. Be sure to head down here for some great deals and Chinese new year shopping!

🇲🇾I’m usually quite picky when it comes to oyster dishes—if they’re not cooked properly, they can taste overly fishy and spoil my appetite.

I’ve never been a fan of Oyster Mee Sua, but after trying the one at Happiness Wheel Cake, it’s now one of my favorites whenever I visit JB. They have several outlets in JB, and this particular one is located in Sutera Mall, Johor Bahru.

While their wheel cake is the highlight, I definitely think the spotlight should also be on their Mee Sua—it’s not to be missed!

#malaysiatrip We happened to be in the Sutera Mall running errands and needed to fix our lunch. We walked past this Taiwanese restaurant and it looks promising. We love how spacious and brightly lit it is with the walls of window. The food was pretty good too! We ordered a few dishes to share including the pig intestines mee sua , braised pork rice and a scallion oil noodle. Enjoyed Bantianyao grilled fish at Sutera Mall. We took the buffet add-on for unlimited rice, drinks, bites and fruits. Enjoyed our lunch. They have a branch in SG but cheaper here. Will visit again.
