[Korea] A museum with over 600 years of history in the city of Seoul
Sungnyemun Gate was the first national treasure built in 1398 as one of the gates of the capital, boasting a history of over 600 years. 🇰🇷
In recent years, it has become famous as a sacred spot for army fans after the hugely popular BTS performed in front of Sungnyemun Gate.
Sungnyemun Gate is known as the first national treasure of Korea, and is the oldest wooden building in Seoul that still exists. It is also called "Namdaemun" (South Gate) because it was the main gate on the south side of the capital in the past.
You can pass under Sungnyemun Gate, which is about 10 times larger than you can imagine from a photo or a distance, and you can feel the traditional Korean architecture.
During the day, bureaucrats dressed in traditional costumes like those in Korean historical dramas perform. There are many bureaucrats, so it is a very powerful performance.
The red and yellow hanbok and Sungnyemun Gate make you feel like you've come to Korea!
And at night, Sungnyemun is lit up. The Seoul cityscape, the illuminated cars, the night sky, and Sungnyemun Gate are a wonderful space where you can feel the traditions of Korea even in the city.
Although it depends on the season, the illuminations are on until around 6pm. There are many restaurants and cafes nearby, so why not visit Sungnyemun Gate before 6pm and have dinner there! ?
