Day 1: The Confucian Legacy of Sungkyunkwan Stepping into Sungkyunkwan University feels like traveling back to the Joseon Dynasty. This Confucian academy, with over six hundred years of history, is Korea's highest center of education and Confucian studies. The campus is a captivating blend of ancient wooden structures and a modern academic atmosphere. As I strolled along the central axis of the campus, passing through lush courtyards and tranquil study halls, I felt the profound influence of Confucianism. In front of the Daeseongjeon Hall, I reflected on the countless students who had bowed to Confucius throughout history, filled with a deep sense of reverence. In the afternoon, I visited the Sungkyunkwan Museum to learn about the development of Korean education and culture through its collection of artifacts. Day 2: Tracing Seoul's Cultural Footsteps The next day, I chose to explore the area around Changdeokgung Palace and Jongmyo Shrine, continuing my journey into traditional culture. The Secret Garden of Changdeokgung is picturesque, with ancient trees and ponds reflecting the palace walls, resembling a serene landscape painting. Then, I headed to Jongmyo Shrine, where the spirit tablets of the Joseon kings are enshrined, and the solemn atmosphere inspired awe. In the evening, I returned to Insadong to visit traditional bookstores and stationery shops, picking up some calligraphy tools as souvenirs. Over the two-day trip, I experienced the profound cultural heritage and literary charm of Seoul through the fusion of the ancient and the modern.

Sungkyunkwan University is another popular spot during the autumn foliage season, both for tourists and locals. The highlight here is the large ginkgo trees, which serve as a landmark for photo opportunities. It is not far from Hyehwa subway station and can be reached on foot. Although it gets crowded during peak season, the university is quite spacious, allowing visitors to find good spots for photos.

The first time I came to Seoul in the thick of autumn, the streets were dyed with red maple and golden ginkgo everywhere, and any corner could take a blockbuster. I went to Sungkyunkwan University Myeongnyundang and Seoul Forest on November 2nd, and the autumn colors are gradually entering their prime. The best time to enjoy autumn is before mid-November, if you miss it, you have to wait another year! 🍁Sungkyunkwan University Myeongnyundang This historic university is one of the oldest in Korea. The new campus is built on the mountain, and you can overlook the whole view from the top. The path is full of red leaves. Walking in the campus, the strong autumn atmosphere is like a scene in a Korean drama. Myeongnyundang is an ancient building, and the most famous in the campus are several hundred-year-old ginkgo trees, which are interesting with the old buildings. There are several popular photo spots in the front and back courtyards, and you often need to queue up. The autumn foliages is exceptionally pretty, especially the 600 year old gingko tree standing in front of the academy. Gingko tree is considered one of the most sacred tree in Korea, as this tree is the least insect infested fauna, which is why it is considered a very pure tree among all, chosen to be planted in front of most Confucius academy. The stone walls beside the academy is also full with maple trees foliages, which adds in more colours to the surroundings making the autumn in the university much more pretty.
