[UK] Voted the No. 1 must-see in the UK by Lonely Planet | Is Stonehenge worth visiting | Take you to see the real D in 360 degrees
📍Stonehenge is one of the popular tourist attractions in the UK. Many British tourism promotional publications use Stonehenge as the cover or focus. It was also selected as the number one must-see in the UK by Lonely Planet. It makes people feel like it after seeing it. I have to go there! If you are traveling to the UK, it would be a pity not to go to Stonehenge. Since everyone is already in the UK, why not spend half a day to see it? If you live in the UK, you will feel even more like "I shouldn't go there"😂
I remember when I first arrived in the UK, I asked someone if Stonehenge was worth visiting? The answer is "You will regret it if you don't go, and you will regret it if you go XD" because the transportation to Stonehenge is really inconvenient. The inconvenience of transportation and the long distance are all reasons why it is daunting! Let this article take you through a 360-degree appreciation of Stonehenge, and then think about whether you want to go there!
Introduction to Stonehenge:
Stonehenge (Stonehenge) The first part of the English name "Stone" refers to stone, and the second part comes from ancient English and means "high hanging". This is a prehistoric relic located on Salisbury Plain in southwest England. It was built around 4500 BC. The main body of Stonehenge is composed of dozens of huge strips of stone pillars, arranged in concentric circles from the inside to the outside. arranged, covering an area of about 110,000 square kilometers. The most surprising thing is that the huge stone in the center of the stone circle is 8 meters tall and weighs nearly 30 tons. Many of the huge stones placed horizontally weigh 7 tons. How did the ancients move those huge stones? What was the purpose of building Stonehenge? Many mysteries have no definite answers so far. Maybe this is the attraction of Stonehenge!
Transportation from London to Stonehenge:
Stonehenge is located about 120 kilometers southwest of London and can be reached in about 3 hours from London.
Train + Bus: Take the train from Waterloo to Salisbury, then transfer to the Stonehenge Tour bus to Stonehenge. The total journey takes about 3 hours.
Many people will choose the combination of Baku (Bath) + Stonehenge. From Baku, take a train or bus to Salisbury and then transfer to the Stonehenge Tour bus to Stonehenge.
In the end, I joined a local group and ordered a half-day tour of Stonehenge from Klook, which saved me the inconvenience of transportation. It included a chartered car, tickets and voice navigation. Highly recommended!
Stonehenge half-day tour experience sharing:
The Stonehenge half-day tour ordered on Klook is operated by GoldenTours and has morning and afternoon itineraries.
The morning itinerary departs from Golden Tours Visitor Center Victoria at 8:30am and returns to Golden Tours Visitor Center Victoria or Gloucester Road (Kensington) at 2:00pm!
The afternoon itinerary departs from Golden Tours Visitor Center Victoria at 1:30pm or Gloucester Road (Kensington) at 1:45pm, and returns to Gloucester Road (Kensington) at 6:30pm!
I chose the morning itinerary to leave at 8:30am, so remember to arrive 15 minutes early!
The actual boarding location is Green Line Coach Station No. 4. You can search for Green Line Coach Station on Google Map. When you arrive, look for Station No. 4. Then pay attention to the sign that says Stonehenge and the morning itinerary number Tour 229. !
We drove off at about 8:45am, and wristbands with travel instructions and emergency contacts were immediately distributed!
Interestingly, the itinerary mentioned that people speculated that the purpose of building Stonehenge was a religious temple? Is it a huge astronomical clock? Or a Bronze Age cemetery? You can also use your imagination to guess! Are they the footprints left by aliens? Or is it the phenomenon after the giant became petrified?
Arrive at the Stonehenge Visitor Center at 11:30am. The driver will hand out Stonehenge admission tickets and then inform you of the gathering time for the return trip. When you get off the bus, grab the voice navigation at the front of the car and you’re ready to go!
This Stonehenge half-day tour is not the kind with a tour guide. It is a kind of chartered car, tickets and voice navigation, and then you can go on your own. It is a semi-free travel type. It is suitable for friends who like to travel independently but are too lazy to wait for a bus to transfer!
You won't see the boulders at that location after getting off the bus. You have to walk a little further to the free shuttle bus stop and take a 15-minute ride to get there!
Have you ever thought that the logo of the Stonehenge Visitor Center looks a bit like a housing complex in Hong Kong? 🤣
I used to say that I would come to Stonehenge only if it was sunny, but unexpectedly I came on a rainy day. It was really like the rain god was walking with me!
"You will regret it if you don't go, and you will regret it if you go." I have finally arrived at Stonehenge! ! !
The form is the same as the promotional publication, the difference is that I have never seen the scene on a rainy day, this is what I saw 😂
Even on rainy days, tourists come in groups to witness the shock of the legendary Stonehenge!
If Stonehenge is really an astronomical clock, there is no point in going there when there is no sun🙈
Because you won’t be able to see where the sun is on which stone, and you won’t be in awe. XDD But Stonehenge on a rainy day is even more mysterious!
It is strongly recommended that you listen to the voice navigation at every location when visiting Stonehenge. After listening to it, you will not think that it is just a pile of stones 😂
When you arrive at the nearest entrance, you will see the side of Stonehenge. There will be a lot of people at the beginning. Once the people disperse, it is the best place to take pictures! Because this is the closest to the stone group, and the ones behind it are a little further away, so remember to wait for a while at the entrance to take a few more photos!
In addition to huge stones, you will also see small round holes in the ground from time to time. These are called Aubrey holes, which are the 56 holes in Stonehenge.
Named after the seventeenth-century antiquarian John Aubrey, it dates back to the earliest stages of Stonehenge in the late fourth and third millennium BC.
We walked from the side of Stonehenge to the back, the other side and the front, admiring the legendary Stonehenge in 360 degrees!
It takes at least 5-6 hours to drive back and forth to a place where you need to take at least ten or eight photos😂😂
Near the front of Stonehenge, you can see the location indicators of winter sunsets and summer sunrises on the ground. If you really see them, you will feel even more magical!
Unknowingly, it took more than an hour to walk around Stonehenge. I walked slowly and took pictures, leaving time to wait for a ride and go to the souvenir shop. 2 hours was just right!
The Stonehenge souvenir shop is located near the visitor center. Remember to visit it on your return trip. The things inside are so interesting!
It seems like everything has turned into the shape of a boulder, so cute!
Here, in addition to many different styles of Stonehenge postcards, there are also Stonehenge stamps unique to this place, but you have to buy the stamps in one strip!
In the end, I bought a Wooden Bookmark, a Stonehenge postcard (from a high altitude angle that I couldn’t take a photo of) and a Stonehenge pin!
We set off back at 1:30pm. We were supposed to return to London at 2:00pm. Due to the traffic jam on the way out and the heavy traffic jam on the way back, we didn't return to Victoria until around 4:50pm. It can also be said that we used it. Only 1 day left! Although it took more time, they did not reduce the time we stayed at Stonehenge due to traffic jams, giving us plenty of time to play!
This is the 360-degree view of Stonehenge that I walked around!
So is it worth going?
Personal thoughts after going:
You will regret if you don’t go, it’s worth it, but I believe this will be a place you will only go to once in your life😂😂
