The uniqueness of Mdina is, of course, its world-famous medieval and baroque architecture and atmosphere. Being built as a fort, the narrow streets with the tall buildings in orange hues definitely create a mystery vibe and offers countless postcard corners and photo opportunities. The highlight is the Mdina Gate, the entrance of the fort, which the Game of Thrones fans will recognize for sure! Spend at least two or three hours wandering around the fortified walls, admiring the architecture and the churches, and don't forget to pass by the Blue Door of Mdina, a picturesque spot with a blue door and a pink bougainvillea above it! I guess this noble city must have been loved by the highest echelons of power throughout the ages, which is why this ancient capital, both a military fortress and a gathering place for the powerful, was built in the heart of the Mediterranean. Imagine the bustling scenes of Romans, Arabs, and Normans coming and going here. It also became the initial preferred filming location for King's Landing in Game of Thrones. Although the final King's Landing was not filmed here, the scene where Daenerys rides into the city was shot here, and the city gate still retains its well-preserved medieval appearance. Mdina is also known as the 'Silent City,' quietly lying in the center of Malta Island for 4,000 years. Time is a god; this medieval ancient capital, with its isolated appearance, is worth crossing half the globe to experience. Walking through each alley, close to each ancient wall, everything before your eyes stands independently of the world. One dares not speak loudly, for fear of disturbing the heavenly beings. Cafe Fontanella's chocolate cake is especially delicious! I recommend visiting in the mild weather of spring or autumn. 📍The Xara Palace Relais & Chateaux ☕️It's a cafe and bar in a 5-star hotel in Imdina (opposite the Vilhena Palace). The balcony view was really nice. There are inside and outside of the cafe, so if you go out to the outside terrace, you can see the National Museum of Natural History on one side and the Imdina Plain(?) on the other. St Paul's Mdina Cathedral is believed to have been built on the site where St Paul met the Roman Governor following his shipwreck off Malta around 60 AD. The current cathedral dates from the 12th century but was extensively remoulded in 17th and 18th century following an earthquake.
