St. Moritz isn’t just a destination—it’s a legend. Tucked high in the Engadin Valley, this alpine resort town is the birthplace of winter tourism and the epitome of Swiss sophistication. Known for its glitz, world-class skiing, and sun-drenched slopes, St. Moritz has been attracting royals, celebrities, and adventurers for over a century—and for good reason.
I visited during the winter, and the moment I stepped onto the snow-covered streets, it felt like entering a James Bond movie. The air was crisp, the mountains sparkled under a flawless blue sky, and horse-drawn sleighs glided past luxury boutiques. But despite its glamorous reputation, St. Moritz also has a warm, welcoming heart.
Skiing down the Corviglia slopes with the frozen Lake St. Moritz in view was an experience I’ll never forget. For non-skiers, the frozen lake itself becomes a venue for polo, cricket, and even horse racing—yes, on ice! There’s also a network of winter hiking trails through snow-covered forests, offering peaceful solitude away from the buzz.
One of the most magical experiences was riding the Bernina Express, a UNESCO-listed train route that winds through glaciers, gorges, and dramatic alpine passes. It’s the scenic soul of Switzerland on rails.
Best Time to Visit:
Winter (Dec–March): Skiing, winter sports, frozen lake events.
Summer (June–Sept): Ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and lake activities.
Travel Tips:
Dress warmly—St. Moritz is famously sunny but also chilly at high altitudes.
Don’t miss the Segantini Museum, a tribute to the alpine painter who captured the region’s soul.
Try Engadin Nusstorte (nut tart) and sip coffee by the lakefront cafés.
Location:
St. Moritz, Canton of Graubünden, Switzerland
