The cathedral itself and many other buildings in the grounds are grade 1 listed, which is the highest grading in the UK and signifies a building vital to the cultural heritage of the nation - It cannot be amended or extended in any way. The cathedral has some of he most intricate stone work and stain glass windows surviving to this day and they show how talented the artisans were of the time.
