[2025 Melaka Attraction] Travel Guide for St John's Fort (Kota St John) (Updated Apr)

My first stop for culture backpacker trip to #malaka was this St John's Fort. I alighted at DoubleTree Hilton Hotel but staying quite far away. Yet, this was the closest discovery place which I can explore to before heading towards another place. St. John is one of the dutch fort which used to be a place of defence. To get here is not that easy, the pathway is quite dangerous passing by road with heavy traffic, jaywalking needed. Came to my dissapoinment that it was actually quite small area and only those spots available to take picture. Informative though, details available in each point of interest. Worth to discover for an adventurer!

St. John's Fort A fort not far from the city of Malacca and also close to other tourist attractions. This fort is located on St. John's Hill, built in the 18th century by the Dutch. In addition to being a fort, the Portuguese also built this place to dedicate to St. John, making it another important church in Malacca. Today, only the beautiful remains of the church remain, along with a cannon facing the land, to protect against enemies who attacked Malacca from land during that time. Malacca is a state that also known as a historical city in Malaysia. It is a city that has rich heritage that portrays tons of breathtaking sights. Walking in Malacca City Centre felt like travel back in time because of the historical monuments and places such as A Fomosa and St. John Fort. The vibes there are so different and unique, almost felt like vacation outside of Malaysia. One of the best things about Malacca is it is a walkable city where you can just walking from place to places without transportation. This is because the attractions there are close to each other. Every place is instagrammable! You can take plenty of photos in Malacca City Centre while appreciating the history behind every places. #malaysiatrip This is a well-preserved historical site on top of a little hill. It was a fort during Portuguese and Dutch rule. There are information board for visitors to understand more about its history. Now this is a popular place for joggers, especially in the morning and evening. There is a road leading up to the fort, with trees along the road providing canopy. You can park your car at the foothill, and walk up about 400metres to the fort, or you can drive your car up but the road is quite narrow. There are monkeys on the trees but they are friendly.

original a church was built here by the Portuguese but this got destroyed when the Dutch came they built the fort. its a long walk up but definitely worthwhile for the views and even found monkeys at the top #urbanexplorer
