The Sri Mariamman Temple is one of the older and popular temples here in Singapore. My advice to everyone would be to wear a pair of socks here as shoes are not permitted. The ground can be very scorching hot during the day. Here, you discover the many Indian Deities that are protecting the people. Sri Mariamman Temple is located in Chinatown, for tourists visiting Chinatown, you can’t miss it! It is Singapore’s oldest Hindu temple, built in the Dravidian style, an architectural idiom, which means the South Indian style. When I was visiting Odisha, India, the famous Sun Temple Konârak is a good example of one. Since founded in 1827, it stood tall in Singapore until today! I have never stepped foot into it before but every year I visit Chinatown during Chinese New Year, we would always walk past it and even through the years, it still looks very majestic. I love how amazing the colourful deities paintings are placed not only at the sides of the wall, but at the top of the wall too. It makes the temple a three dimensional place to explore. I love how colourful all those art paintings were. The location is at 244 South Bridge Rd, Singapore 058793. The nearest mrt station is the brown line, alight at TE18 station. Admission is free for all. Take note of their opening hours when visiting the temple.

The building is wonderful from the outside, full of colourful statues and large wooden doors. To go in you need to be properly attired and remove shoes. Not a problem.
