Sparks Street is located south of Parliament Hill, referring to the section of Sparks Street between Elgin Street and Bank Street.
Although Sparks Street may not be as famous as Byward Market, its history is much longer. As Ottawa's most locally characteristic pedestrian street, it originated in the 18th century and has a history of two hundred years.
The north and south sides of Sparks Street are lined with quaint historical buildings. There are also many street sculptures and fountains, and the streets and alleys are filled with flowers in summer. Here, you can find many cafes, bars, restaurants, and souvenir shops.
Strolling around, admiring the flowers, sitting down for a sip of coffee, it feels like walking in a slow-paced European country, forgetting the time, and feeling very comfortable!
