July in Zhanjiang · Between the Buildings
In the midsummer of July, the sunlight is like a golden, splendid brocade, gently spreading over every inch of this land. Originally, I envisioned myself being able to explore every corner of China like a leisurely traveler during breaks from work, measuring this colorful country with my footsteps. But fate seems to have a penchant for humor. Like a mischievous magician, it waved its wand lightly over my planner, locking my gaze and steps early on in Zhanjiang, this charming coastal city.
Zhanjiang, located at the southernmost tip of China, is like a dazzling pearl of the ocean. I have painted its image in my mind countless times: the sea breeze gently blowing, carrying a faint salty and cool taste, intertwining with the golden beach; the waves gently lapping the shore, as if whispering or singing; and the sky, as blue as a washed canvas, occasionally dotted with a few leisurely drifting white clouds, harmonizing with the distant fishing boats at dusk, creating a tranquil and harmonious coastal painting.
Despite being swamped with official duties, my longing for Zhanjiang surged like a tide, making it irresistible. So, in this midsummer July, I packed my bags and boarded the train to Zhanjiang. Outside the train window, the sunlight poured down like a waterfall, illuminating everything, as if they were all stretching out in this season to embrace the feast of life. I closed my eyes, feeling the warmth of the sun, my heart already filled with anticipation and longing for Zhanjiang.
When the train slowly pulled into Zhanjiang Station, I couldn't wait to step out of the carriage and take a deep breath of the sea-scented air. The Zhanjiang before my eyes unfolded like a slowly opening scroll, instantly immersing me in the beauty of this city. The streets were shaded by green trees, the sea breeze rustling through the treetops, bringing bursts of coolness; the distant bay sparkled as if countless gems were twinkling; and on the beach by the sea, people were either playing or strolling, enjoying this rare summer time...
