South Gate to Heaven, Taishan Mountain
Exploring Taishan Mountain, Shandong - n.4:
Nantianmen Gate (South Gate to Heaven) 南天门 1460m asl
also named Heavenly Gate Pass, is located at the end of Eighteen Twistings, at 1460 meters above sea level, built by Zhang Zhichun, an abbot in 1264, decorated by red walls and yellow glazed tiles on the roof and stone arched doorway. The cableway station is 10min away.
After so many stairs is a great achievement to arrive here, the most difficult part is done! You are finally at the mountain top.
Looking back from the gate there’s an amazing view over the thousands steps climbed.

Mount Tai: Reaching the Peak and Overlooking All Mountains. Climbing Mount Tai, Feeling the Majesty of Heaven and Earth.
Mount Tai, hailed as the 'Chief of the Five Sacred Mountains,' is a magnificent peak that offers endless awe with its towering grandeur and profound historical and cultural heritage. The climb feels like a journey through time, from the undulating stone steps to the pine and cypress-lined paths, every inch of Mount Tai is steeped in ancient atmosphere. Whether it's the grandeur of the Middle Heaven Gate or the magnificence of the South Heaven Gate, I felt the vastness and majesty between heaven and earth.
The most unforgettable moment was reaching the Jade Emperor Peak at dawn and witnessing the sunrise over Mount Tai. At that moment, the rosy light pierced through the clouds, draping the mountain in a golden veil, illuminating the world in a brilliant glow. This breathtaking natural beauty evokes the ancient sentiment of 'Reaching the peak and overlooking all mountains.'
This journey to Mount Tai was not just an exploration of nature, but also a reflection on oneself and culture. The beauty of Mount Tai lies not only in its scenery but also in its thousand-year history and culture, making it a journey of spiritual elevation.

Mount Tai | The ancients did not deceive me, and I saw no mountains after returning from the Five Sacred Mountains.
Mount Tai - the first of the Five Sacred Mountains, it is said that Mount Tai will punish every stubborn person! So naturally, I have to go and experience it for myself! Go, go, go!
📸Recommended attractions:
📍Jade Emperor Peak
Climb to the top of Mount Tai and feel the heroic spirit of "I will be the first to reach the top, and all the mountains are small". Remember to set off early, avoid the peak of the crowd, and enjoy the magnificent scenery of the first ray of morning sun falling on the top of the mountain.
📍Middle Heavenly Gate
This is an excellent place to rest halfway, and it is also the watershed of the climbing journey. From here, the mountain becomes steeper, but the scenery becomes more charming. Take a photo here to commemorate your climbing journey.
📍South Heavenly Gate
Passing through the South Heavenly Gate is like stepping into a fairyland. This is the last barrier to the top of the mountain and an excellent place to watch the sunrise over the sea of clouds. Don't forget to look up at the antique buildings and feel the profound historical heritage.

Hiking Mount Tai to watch the sunset🌅 5h round trip climbing➕photography strategy📷
Stop climbing at night!!!
It's really not cold climbing Mount Tai during the day in winter!
You can save on accommodation fees at the summit without suffering!
As a woman who grew up in the Qinling Mountains, I adhere to the principle and spirit of hiking up and down. I put on full makeup, ran fast, and managed to climb, take photos, and save time without missing a beat🥰 (Friends with bad knees should not imitate me)
⌚️My climbing time:
Arrived at the Hongmen climbing entrance at 13:00, reached Zhongtianmen at 14:30, Nantianmen at 16:00, and Yuhuangding at 16:30 to wait for the sunset
🕙It took about 3.5h to climb up and 1.5h to climb down
🎫Tickets:
Adults 115 (ID required)
Students 57 (ID➕student ID or information from the student network required)
Seniors over 60 free (ID required)
🧤Some personal experiences after climbing:
1. The prices in Mount Tai are really friendly, at most 1-3 yuan higher than in the city area (if it's too expensive, don't buy it), there are food and water sellers every short distance, and there is a 711 in the scenic area, and surprisingly a KFC halfway up the mountain
2. Mount Tai scenic area is now equipped with ground lights, so friends who climb at night or worry about it getting dark when descending no longer need to bring headlamps and flashlights
3. If you're afraid of getting tired, try to go light. There are shared power banks along the way in the scenic area (10💰/hour), and there is a luggage storage at the Hongmen entrance
4. The best spot to watch the sunset is at Yuhuangding
5. For clothing👟hiking shoes➕quick-dry base layer➕fleece/plus velvet hoodie➕shell jacket, I also brought a down liner, it's not cold at all climbing during the day, I only put on the hard shell jacket after passing Nantianmen, and wore the down jacket after reaching the summit
6. Other items, such as gloves, hats, and hiking poles, I suggest bringing them. The wind is very strong at the summit, and hiking poles are more useful when descending
👀Lazy person's route:
If you just want to climb the mountain easily and enjoy the scenery, you can take a bus🚌➡to Zhongtianmen (one-way 35💰)➡️take the cable car from Zhongtianmen (one-way 100💰)➡️arrive at Nantianmen➡️walk to Tianjie, Yuhuangding to enjoy the view➡️then return the same way
However, please note that the cable car seems to stop running at 17:30, and the bus should be around 20:30, so please arrange your time accordingly

Mount Tai Scenic Tour (Part One)
Third day of the trip to Shandong.
Arrived at Tianwai Village in Mount Tai Scenic Area at 1 p.m. Looking up, the Dai Yue is majestic and magnificent, the mountain is majestic and steady, the peaks of the mountain top are undulating, and the faint clouds are lingering. The cliffs and cliffs of the mountain waist are crisscrossed, and the huge rocks and pines stand tall. The buildings in the mountains are faintly visible, quiet and mysterious. Take the scenic bus to Zhongtianmen, and then take the cable car directly to Nantianmen. Although there is less fun of climbing for a long time, some beautiful scenic spots are missed, but it saves time and retains physical strength. For couples like us who are not good at walking, it is also a loss and a gain. After all, the most beautiful scenery is on the dangerous peak, isn't it?
Out of the cableway, Bentian Street. The begonia flowers all over the mountains and plains have already drunk the tourists. The begonia trees in Mount Tai are mostly distributed on slopes above one kilometer, and there are more and denser ones on the top of the mountain. The timing is just right, above Nantianmen, the begonia flowers on the mountain are blooming wantonly, in clusters, layers, and trees. The wind sways the flower branches, the flowers are either white or pink, under the green leaves on the branches, they are graceful and fragrant, arousing the romantic feelings of tourists. The pines of Mount Tai are also fascinating, either popping out of the sea of flowers, growing in rock crevices, or standing in front of palaces, temples, and temples. The needles are dark green, and the trunks are vigorous. Adding vitality to Mount Tai, there are also many eye-catching but unknown flowers, plants and trees, widely planted in the mountains and fields, dazzling and charming.
In fact, the rocks of Mount Tai are the soul of Mount Tai. The Tai Shan conglomerate, which was formed about 2.5 billion years ago, is one of the oldest strata in China. On the stone cliffs on the side of the mountain road, you can often see the inscriptions marking the names and formation years of the mountains and rocks. Many rocks are 600 million years, 700 million years, or even 2.1 billion years old, which makes me sigh at the shortness of life. It is said that there are more than 1,000 cliff carvings in Mount Tai, most of which were left by literati and scholars of the past dynasties, and some of the emperors' inscriptions and inscriptions are carved on them. Mount Tai provides precious resources for important disciplines such as the study of the earth's geology, Chinese history and culture, and plant growth distribution. On the top of the mountain, the red cliffs of Daguan Peak are magnificent and spectacular, and the texture and color are first-class. Among them, there is a huge rock that is like a mountain top, standing tens of meters high, with the "Record of Mount Tai" engraved in the thirteenth year of Kaiyuan of Tang Xuanzong. The whole book is carved in regular script on the entire cliff, which is spectacular and has great artistic appreciation and historical research value.
The Zhanlu Terrace on the top of the mountain is the best perspective to appreciate the natural beauty of Mount Tai. This platform is a vertical cliff on three sides, with a wide view, overlooking the mountains and rivers, and a sense of heroism arises. But seeing the cliffs of ten thousand feet, the mountain tops are lined with trees, the strange rocks are rugged, either sharp or smooth and bright, the stone color is either green and white, or white and yellow, the green pines and green grass are dotted among the stones, quite like the cliffs of Huangshan, its natural and primitive appearance is memorable. On the top of the mountain, you can see all directions, see the entire Tai'an city, look at the rivers of the Qilu Plain, and take in all the weather. When the sun is about to set, the remaining clouds in the west begin to turn red, slowly deepening to light red, the light beams scatter through the clouds into the sky, the distant mountains and the horizon form a magnificent scene, which is very shocking. We were fortunate to see a spectacular sunset.
When I returned to the Yunnao Hotel next to Tianjie, it was already dark. The wind started on the mountain and the temperature dropped. The waiter informed the two of us that there will be a local guide to take the guests to watch the sunrise tomorrow morning. After renting two cotton coats, I went back to the room to sleep early, ready to welcome tomorrow's sun.

Mount Tai during the Spring Festival‖Summary
There were too many people visiting Mount Tai during the Spring Festival, so it's necessary to have a good mentality, be well prepared, and go with determination to have fun!
Pros:
Mount Tai, as the most prestigious of the Five Great Mountains, is still beautiful in winter, with fresh air, numerous strange rocks, and the scent of the forest.
Bad experiences:
1. In the evening, from Quancheng to Tai'an, we booked Hilton Hompton, but were told that the room could not be cleaned up. They could help us change to a nearby hotel. The operation took nearly an hour. The new hotel was newly renovated, the hardware was good, but the smell in the room was too strong.
2. The Mount Tai scenic area is already very standardized, but the details are really hard to describe. Because there were so many people, we couldn't check in at all the scenic spots. When we arrived at the South Heaven Gate, we found a snack street, which ruined the original taste of Mount Tai. There was a lot of garbage thrown by the crowd, and the environment was damaged (angry). There were quite a few restrooms, but the smell and environment were not like those of a major scenic area.
3. The emergency management of large crowds is not in place. Children and adults were separated, and there was ice and snow on the way down the mountain, causing pedestrians to fall. There was a lack of staff to divert the flow.
Lucky things:
1. Although the hotel was not satisfactory, the service was impeccable. They had slippers for children, and the details were good. We told the front desk that we were going to climb the mountain. Although it was not mealtime, they let us have breakfast. The breakfast was very rich, and we felt warm and full.
2. We didn't play with the crowd on the top of Mount Tai. We walked from Guanlu Platform to the back mountain and reached the top of Jade Emperor. There were no crowds, and we saw many strange rocks and could appreciate them quietly. That was the most relaxed and happy part of the journey.
3. Although we wanted to avoid the crowd and enter the mountain from Taohua Valley, our family still wanted to enter from Tianwai Mountain. Without thinking too much, we took the cable car to the top of the mountain in 10 minutes, which saved time for sightseeing.
4. We parked in a different way, parking around the residents. As soon as we got off the car, we met an old man selling old climbing sticks. Three for 10 yuan, which helped a lot when we went down the mountain.
5. We walked down to the Zhongtianmen Passenger Station for more than two hours. It was too congested, we had no mood to enjoy the scenery, and people were littering. We were very discouraged... Fortunately, we persisted in walking down the mountain. When we didn't have to go down the stairs, our family's mood improved. Looking back at the South Heaven Gate, it was still very shocking.
Suggestions:
1. Get up early, try to enter the mountain at 6 o'clock, especially with children. Make sure to eat warm and healthy food, so you don't have to look for a toilet all the way. If you encounter congestion, it's hard to go to the toilet...
2. It's windy on the mountain, so wear a climbing scarf, hat, and windbreaker. Shoes must be non-slip and soft-soled.
3. Bring some water and food. There's no shortage of things on the mountain, but it's really annoying to queue up when there are many people.
4. Keep to the right when going up and down the mountain. The shady places are slippery, so be careful and don't rush.
5. Women and children must bring disinfectant wipes and wet wipes, otherwise they will be at a loss when eating.
6. At noon, the snow begins to melt, and there will be mud on the ground. Some of it is ice underneath. Don't let children step on the water, they might fall.

South Heaven Gate - The end of your hard work may just be the starting point for others
After twists and turns, every step you take on the Eighteen Bends, every drop of sweat you shed, will record your joy at the South Heaven Gate.
The 'Brief History of Mount Tai' also praises the South Heaven Gate, 'On the Eighteen Bends, it soars high into the sky, with two mountains standing opposite each other, and the path of birds in the vast wilderness is tortuous. The sound of pines and the mist are confusing between the ears and the clothes. Looking down from above, the mountains seem to lie low like hills, the rivers circle like strings, the world is vast and indescribable.'
