Exhibition “Contemporary Draft”
"Contemporary Body" explores the connections between the body, culture and historical space by artist Julien Spiewak
"Contemporary Body" is a photographic exhibition that continues the concept of the artist's previous series 'Corps de Style', which presents a combination of the human body, antique furniture and architectural context in a space with historical and cultural depth. The artist is inspired by the relationship between humans and objects in the context of space. Whether it's the curve of an armrest, the pattern on a door or the details of wallpaper, these things invite him to question the cultural context and beliefs of the past.
In this exhibition, Julien Spiewak presents a delicate look at the connection between the beauty of the body and architectural beauty, especially in the context of Bangkok, which is diverse in terms of history, culture and religion, such as Sirisala Private Thai Villa, Wat Suwannaram Ratchaworawihan and Baan So Heng Tai.
Julien Spiewak's photographs combine different parts of the human body, such as arms, legs or faces, with furniture and elements of ancient buildings, focusing on the connection of the meaning of objects to the human identity and pointing out the differences in the perspectives of the body between European and Thai cultures, which have different roots in beliefs, such as the sacredness of the head in Thai culture.
The exhibition in the area of Baan So Heng Tai, Talad Noi area, is another thing that helps to emphasize the point that the artist wants to present. Because Baan So Heng Tai is an important place as a representative of Thai-Chinese culture that has been passed down for more than 200 years. The design of the "four houses surrounding the courtyard" reflects the beliefs of the Chinese people and the construction elements that blend Thainess, allowing us to see the relationship between the past and the present. The Chinese-Thai furniture and architecture that remain in Baan So Heng Tai become the most appropriate stage to present the concept of beauty of space and the body, which not only represents artistic beauty but also reflects the dimensions of time and culture.
"Rang Samoan" is like a journey that invites viewers to explore the delicate relationship between the human body and the context of cultural and historical space through the perspective of Julien Spiewak, a creator of works that challenge and change viewers' original perspectives on space and the human body.
