Hancheng City God Temple
Hancheng City God Temple, a 400-year-old glazed world, is located on the east side of the central part of the ancient city of Hancheng. It was first built in the fifth year of Longqing in the Ming Dynasty (1571), expanded in the fifth year of Wanli (1577), and rebuilt many times afterwards. In 2001, it was selected into the fifth batch of national protected units.
Hancheng's ancient buildings were influenced by southern Shanxi and mostly used colored glaze. The mountain gate of City God Temple and the archways on both sides of the gate are covered with glazed tiles. Opposite the mountain gate are two magnificent glazed screen walls. Standing at the entrance of City God Temple, it feels like entering a glazed world.
The City God Temple, the Confucian Temple and the Dongying Temple together form the Hancheng Museum. The ticket price is 50 yuan and the ticket office is at the entrance of the Confucian Temple. The ticket check at the City God Temple is not strict and you can basically go in directly, so there are the most people there.
Entering the City God Temple, from south to north are the Mountain Gate, the Political and Educational Square, the Weiming Gate, the Guangjian Hall, the Dexin Hall, the Lingyou Hall, and the Hanguang Hall. There are also two squares, two corridors, four floors, and two wings on the east and west sides.
All the building structures in the temple adopt the open-top structure. The beams still retain the crossbeams. The front and rear eaves are mostly made of large eaves, the eaves columns are thick, the mountain faces are made of lintels and general beams, and the hip roofs are relatively large and the shape is simple and ancient. The glazed decoration on the roof is a major feature, with various shapes that are dazzling to the eyes.
