Before going back to work, I impulsively booked two nights at the Sofitel Beijing Hotel (formerly the W Hotel) with my Diamond Card. 2. Overall Hotel Experience and Comparison The Sofitel Beijing Hotel is actually quite good, but there are some differences compared to the Sofitel I stayed at in France. Of course, the overall environment is different, so I won't go into detail. I arrived at the hotel at dinner time, and as soon as I entered, I smelled a mixed aroma, like a combination of takeout food, reminiscent of the underground food courts near university towns. The front desk service was very enthusiastic, and it seemed that the hotel was not short of guests, as most of the guests were families. 3. Room Condition and Service Experience The room was quite large for me, but the maintenance was not very good, with peeling paint, cracks, and holes. I used my Diamond Card to book a basic room, and the Gold Card includes one breakfast. If you're visiting Beijing for the first time and want to visit places like the Forbidden City, I recommend staying here, as it's very close. The large bathtub in the room is very comfortable for soaking, and after a day of sightseeing, a soak in the tub is very relaxing. However, the facilities are a bit old, and there are no USB ports, which could be improved.

The Beijing Sofitel Hotel we are sharing today is located at Jianguomen, taken over by Accor after the former W Hotel was de-branded. Room Review: The illustrated rooms are the hotel's Supreme Suite and Club King Room types. The Supreme Suite has a very high ceiling, and its corner position gives it a 270-degree view. The entire living room has an excellent view, with no high-rise buildings in sight. The living room is very spacious, with a sofa, desk, and tea table. The bedroom area is also quite large, and the bedside decorative lights can be adjusted according to the room's color palette. The room has removed the partition for the bathroom area, with the bathtub serving as the boundary between the bedroom and the bathroom. The double sinks are very exquisite, with a dry and wet separation design. The bedroom area offers a beautiful sunset view, and the hotel is one of the few in Beijing with a view of the Beijing Railway Station. The Club King Room is straightforward. The bathroom area is quite innovative, but the rest is not very interesting. To sum up, there is a price difference of about 2000 yuan between these two rooms, so you get what you pay for. Public Area Review: The main entrance gives a strong W vibe. The lobby bar area is designed like an outdoor bar, with interesting small private rooms. The sculptures and seating area near the downstairs staircase are very W-like. The B1 buffet restaurant area has a casual style, with interesting poker chairs and a large outdoor garden area. Additionally, the B2 conference area has a nightclub-style design. The second floor houses a Chinese restaurant, but I personally don't like the red decor with purple lighting. The private rooms are not very formal, and there is a wine bar, so guests might need to consider if the style suits them. The third floor has a gym and spa. The gym facilities are very new, and the pool is not large, but both areas are quite crowded. The spa facilities are standard and not particularly professional. The hotel's 23rd floor houses the lounge, located at the end of the floor. The small private rooms in the lounge offer a distant view of the CBD, with limited food options. The adjacent large private room is very beautiful, with a clear view, making it a good place for parties. Overall, even though the hotel is named Sofitel, its core is still W. Guests who like W will enjoy it, but if you prefer the French style of Sofitel and dislike the nightclub vibe, this might not be a good choice.

The afternoon sun shines into the room, and having a cup of coffee is really comfortable. The bed in the room is super big and very comfortable. The bathroom has a separate shower and dry area. The oversized bathtub is perfect for a hot bath to relieve fatigue. There are several highlights in terms of service. First, the lady at check-in was very polite, the check-in process was smooth, and she introduced the basic facilities of the hotel. Second, I went for breakfast this morning, and I think it was the restaurant manager who greeted guests at the door, and also promptly addressed the needs of the guests inside. When a coffee machine was out of water, the manager saw me with a coffee cup and directly guided me to another coffee machine. What's more commendable is the hotel's buffet breakfast, with local Beijing snacks and a very rich variety of breakfast options, really allowing guests to taste the local specialties of Beijing at the hotel. Third, after I finished breakfast and returned to my room, my card was demagnetized. I found a lady cleaning on the 23rd floor, who was very polite to put down her work, confirmed my guest information, and then helped me open the door. The hotel offers great value for money, and I recommend it to everyone. I saw that there is also an outdoor area outside the buffet restaurant, with self-service beer and barbecue, which I will try after I return from my business trip.
