Shuilu Temple is a famous temple in the Six Dynasties. There are ancient colored sculptures in the temple. It is a treasure house of ancient Chinese sculpture art and is known as "the second Dunhuang of China". Shuilu Temple was originally the Shuilu Hall of Wuzhen Temple. It was an important place for holding "Shuilu Grand Fast" and "Shuilu Daochang" at that time. During the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Huaizhen, the vassal king of Qin, spent more than five years to build a family temple. The more than 3,700 clay sculptures preserved in the main hall of Shuilu Temple are known as "treasures of wall sculptures". It is surrounded by water on three sides, shaped like an isolated island, with green mountains towering and rivers flowing around it, so it is called Shuilu Temple. Shuilu Temple is a courtyard-style building with 5 mountain gates in the front, 13 side rooms on the north and south sides, 3 central halls in the courtyard and 5 main halls in the west. It is a complete Buddhist temple. The whole courtyard is quiet and ancient. The colored clay wall sculptures are the essence of Shuilu Temple, with high aesthetic value and historical research value. The colored clay wall sculptures are all in the main hall of the temple, divided into four parts: the north and south gables, the two walls of the main compartment in the hall, and the eaves wall. The wall sculptures integrate painting, round sculpture, relief, and engraving art methods, and are inlaid with more than 3,700 statues of people and all things in nature on the walls, beams, and columns. These works of art show Buddhist stories and mythological figures with their delicate carvings and rich colors. They are not only an expression of religious beliefs, but also the crystallization of the rich imagination and superb skills of ancient craftsmen, attracting many tourists to stop and appreciate. As a temple famous for its exquisite wall sculptures and Buddhist rituals, Shuilu Temple is not only a holy place of Buddhist culture, but also an ideal place for art lovers and history researchers to explore ancient culture.
