It’s cold in the morning but in the afternoon the sun warms you up. Wear a light jacket and you’ll save yourself from carrying a heavy jacket all around. Didi did not work for me at all in Changpingcun area, have your hotel call a taxi for you. It was about 15-20 Yuan per person to Shuangqiaogou entrance. I suggest you add the drivers WeChat for direct contact on your way back. Here’s your chance to buy your food, water and oxygen can (about 20yuan) before you get price gouged up top!! I arrived to Shuangqiaogou by 10:40 and bought tickets in person through the window. I did not purchase my tickets online at all. Once I gave my passport and 150 yuan a ticket is printed and it’s time to go. There isn’t much to say as they do understand basic English. Once you enter the turnstiles, board their green shuttle bus and hold on tightly as it’s an approx. 40 minutes ride up. I don’t recommend standing, so if there aren’t any seats, wait for the next bus as there are always buses at the bottom. The ride involves a bunch of turns and if you get motion sickness, plastic bags are provided on the top handrails for that reason. At the top drop off peak area, you can buy food, water and whatever else you didn’t buy before. Take your photos of the mountain and make your way around back on a bus to each stop. There were moments where the altitude sickness kicks in if you were already experiencing it, you’re probably going to continue that feeling unless you stop, take some oxygen and just rest a bit. Each stop involves you getting off as the bus queues to leave again. There is a drop off point for the bus and a pick up point. So you can’t just sit inside the bus and expect to ride directly down. ( only exception was near the water rafting portion as our bus did stop, we didn’t need to get off and kept riding back down ) Each stop has a bathroom and a vending machine for you to use. If you haven’t used a squatting bathroom before, I suggest you get used to it, the standard toilet were out of service all the way from the top dow. I arrived at 10:40am, left the area at 2:30pm (about 4 hours). I thought it would take me longer but I didn’t hike. I just went with the flow and took my time at most of the drop off points. Waiting for the shuttle bus was very minimal. The top portion of the mountain had residual snow on the ground and that was it. Afterwards I went back to the hotel and there is nothing to do but wait for the next day back to Chengdu.
