Tanabata Festival （七夕）is one of the festival based on the folklore of the love story of a celestial maiden and a commoner shepherd, where they were only allowed to meet on this particular day during the year. The Tanabata Festival in Hiratsuka is the biggest within the region and you will see colourful lanterns hanging around the streets, dancers performing and street vendors selling street food. Typically many shops will also hang the bamboo trees as a sign of good fortune. People from all around the area even those from Tokyo will also travel down to join the fun and the atmosphere. Of course, this is also a good opportunity to invite your love ones as a dating event.
