There are different ways to get to Hell Valley Snow Monkey Park, the most convenient and most popular is to join the 1 day tour and we wanted to experience more beauty of Nagano Prefecture chose to stay for one night at Yudanaka Onsen Inn.
Take the train from Nagano Station to Yudanaka Station
Purchased two days (Snow Monnkey Pass) for adults 4,000 yen, can take trains and buses🚐 on the Nagano Electric Railway 🚈 and includes park admission tickets.
Arrived at Yudanaka Station very thick snow, pulling luggage is also difficult.

Winter needs more warm equipment 🧣, thick socks 🧤, non-slip shoes / snowshoes 🥾 most of the time outdoors remember to eat more, because walking up the snow mountains and winter weather is very easy to get hungry 😆

A place where monkeys soak in hot springs
#hotsprings #100waysoftravel
Hotspring vacation is very popular in Japan, but have you ever wondered monkeys enjoying hot spring? At Nagano near Shibu Onsen, there is this place called Jigokudani Yaen Koen, which is a hot spring area and the ones using it are not humans, but monkeys. That area is a wild hot spring area with no ryokan or resorts, which is why wild monkeys are usingbthem purely for their own leisure especially during the cold winter. Those apes are also not afraid of humans, probably due to the fact that many tourists visiting there. It is a very interesting site and I hope to visit there again.

A Serene Winter: An Encounter with Snow Monkeys in Jigokudani
On a cold winter day covered in white snow, we arrived at the Jigokudani Monkey Park in Nagano, Japan, hoping to witness the famous snow monkeys firsthand. As I entered the park, snowflakes gently fell from the sky, adding a touch of magic to this tranquil white world. Upon stepping into the park, we saw a group of adorable wild Japanese macaques playing in the snow. Their furry bodies stood out against the white snow, and their warm fur seemed to tell a story of the cold.
Next, we walked to the famous hot spring pool. The snow monkeys here seemed completely indifferent to the outside world, leisurely soaking in the steaming hot springs. They occasionally stirred the water, enjoying the warmth and comfort. Watching their relaxed demeanor, our mood also lightened, as if we too had become part of this serene world, enjoying the tranquility and beauty of the moment.
The snow monkeys' leisurely attitude taught us that in life, it's okay to slow down and enjoy every moment. This trip to Jigokudani has become one of our most cherished memories.

Nagano Attractions | Go to Nagano to see wild macaques bathing in hot springs in winter—Nagano Jigokudani Monkey Park
#naturalscape
A photo of a monkey bathing in a hot spring in heavy snow has attracted countless tourists to visit the extremely popular attraction "Jigokudani Monkey Park" in Nagano Prefecture. Established in 1964, it is a park with a natural environment without fences or cages, where you can observe wild Japanese macaques up close.
Transportation guide: Jigokudani Monkey Park is located deep in the mountains. No matter where you depart from Japan, please arrive at "JR Nagano Station" first. The easiest and most convenient way is to take the Nagaden Express and get off at the East Exit Bus Station No. 4 (bus The stop sign says Nozawa Onsen. Madarao Plateau direction, Shiga Kogen direction) Take the bus "bound for Kuma no Yu. Inkawa" for 45 minutes and get off at "Snow Monkey Park (SNOW MONKEY PARK)/Kamibayashi Onsenguchi". It takes 45 minutes. , follow the signs and walk for about 40 to 60 minutes to get there. It is highly recommended to purchase the "SNOW MONKEY PASS" snow monkey pass, which includes round-trip transportation and admission to the park. There are not many fixed flights, so be sure to check the return timetable before setting off.
I arrived in Nagano at the end of February. The weather was nice and warm. I took the Nagaden Express Bus to reach the mouth of Kamibayashi Hot Spring. Then I followed other tourists and walked along the winding trail for about 40 minutes. There were cliffs on one side and steep slopes on the other. There are no railings at all, which is indeed a bit dangerous in the snow season. The walkway is relatively flat and there are steep stairs until you reach the entrance of the park. After passing the ticket gate of the cabin, you officially enter the Wild Monkey Park. Although they are wild macaques, feeding is prohibited! Along the way, there will be some small macaques lying or sitting on free piles of stones for sunbathing. There are more macaques near the hot spring area. The weather is nice today and the snow has melted, so there are no macaques to take a dip in. There will be staff present secretly throwing feed into the hot spring pool to attract the macaques, which can also satisfy the tourists who come all the way to see the macaques.
I have to say that in this wild macaque park, I didn’t see cleaning staff, but no matter whether I walked or walked on the cliff, I couldn’t see the macaque excrement, and there was no strong smell. Macaques should be very used to people walking around. They won't attack or snatch things. They just do their own thing. Even Japanese macaques are very polite. Nagano Prefecture is one of the cities with the largest amount of snow in Japan in winter. When you come to Jigokudani Wild Park in winter, you must wear warm clothes or waterproof snowshoes. There are no rest seats in the natural environment, let alone lockers. The lighter the better. Well, everyone is welcome to visit Nagano.

[Nagano] Representative of Yudanaka Onsen
●Name
Yudanaka Onsen Yorozuya
●Access
3137 Heijo, Yamanouchi-cho, Shimotakai-gun, Nagano
🚗Private parking available
●Points
Nagano is big...
The further north you go, the more wonderful hot springs there are
Not only hot springs, but also fruits and sake
A really great place
Yudanaka Onsen Yorozuya was rebuilt after a fire in the past, but all the historical things remain
As soon as you enter the entrance, you can feel that it is a representative hot spring inn of Nagano that has been loved by famous people since the Kansei era
The latticed ceiling and decorations...
You can experience an atmosphere that makes you feel like you have gone back in time.
The hot springs are particularly famous, and it is worth visiting just for the "Momoyama bath"‼ ️
Also, although I didn't use it, the SPA facilities have been expanded and are very nice from the photos
It is a 2-hour set, so I think you can relax at your leisure. The food is delicious, but...
I think it would be more valuable if they served more local ingredients in their natural flavors.
It's a really wonderful hot spring inn, so I definitely want to visit it again if I get the chance.
You can also visit "Shibu Onsen Kanaguya," which is full of the world of "Spirited Away," in a 30-minute walk.
It's hard to get a reservation, but it's a hot spring inn that you'd like to visit at least once.

Spirited Away hot springs
Shibu Onsen Historical Inn Kanaguya is a long-established hot spring inn located in Yamanouchi Town, Shimotakai District, Nagano Prefecture. It was originally a blacksmith's shop for the Matsushiro Domain, but it became an inn in 1758 when hot springs happened to spring up here during restoration work after a disaster. Since its predecessor was a blacksmith's shop, the lord of the Matsushiro Domain at the time named it Kanaguya.
Kanaguya is characterized by its luxurious and somewhat nostalgic building. For this reason, it is rumored to be the model for the bathhouse that appears in Spirited Away. Although no Ghibli staff have actually come to cover the inn, it is said that Kanaguya was familiar to director Hayao Miyazaki, who has a villa in Nagano Prefecture. Perhaps due to the influence of these rumors, No-Face is also hiding in the inn.

📍 Japan 🇯🇵❄️ Location↓
When stayed at a ryokan ✨🧡❄️
Soaking in the hot spring after a long day of walking through the snowy paths, waking up in the morning to breathe the fresh winter air in the mountain, reading a book by the window when the snowflakes are falling outside. [Kumanoyu Onsen, Nagano] A large bath where you can enjoy skin-beautifying water🐻♨️
The hot spring at Kumanoyu Hotel has one indoor bath and one open-air bath, which are switched between men and women depending on the day!
The indoor bath is a little hot at about 42-43 degrees, but the open-air bath is a little warmer at about 41-42 degrees, probably because it's cold outside, so it was easy to get in!!
It contains three of Japan's three major beauty springs:
⚫︎Bicarbonate springs
⚫︎Sulfate springs
⚫︎Sulfur springs
and contains a lot of metasilicic acid, so it makes your skin smooth🧖♀️
My skin didn't dry out much after the bath, so it seems to be good for moisturizing.

[Nagano Yokoteyama] The highest bakery in Japan 🍞
I went to the bakery 🍞 at Yokote Mountaintop Hutte 🛖!!!
There is a chairlift about a 5-minute drive from Kumanoyu Hotel, and from there it is a 10-minute ride to the bakery.
I went there last October, but the weather was so bad... I didn't have the courage to take the lift😂
I called Yokote Sancho Hut directly and they arranged a pick-up and drop-off service for 1000 yen per person round trip🚌
I think the lift also cost about 1000 yen per person round trip, so if the weather is good, I recommend taking the lift!!!
At the bakery, I had
⚫︎Mushroom soup and bread 1300 yen
⚫︎Borsch and bread 1300 yen
!!!
The bread is freshly baked every morning, so it was fluffy and
The soup was really good for my chilled body🫠
And of course, I bought some bread to take home! The bread is made without any preservatives, so they asked us to eat it as soon as possible, and we ate it all by the next day!!!
I recommend reheating it and eating it with butter!!!

The view and scenery is definitely 10 points, no longer need to say more. Remember to take the cable car and buy a pass to go to Soda Terrace. If you know how to ski, you don't have to buy a pass to take the cable car. The sea of clouds is not often seen really have to hit your hands, sometimes it will be foggy and rainy, it is best to customize your own itinerary to ski. In terms of meals, the pastry soup ramen is very good value for money, but be sure to queue up before the peak time is more crowded. I
I was so addicted to seeing a raccoon cat when I was about to leave😜

[Nagano] SORA terrace Sea of clouds accessible from Kanto ☁️
Address: 381-0405
Yamase, Yamanouchi-cho, Shimotakai-gun, Nagano Prefecture
Take the gondola to the top of the mountain, and if the conditions are right, you can see the sea of clouds from SORA terrace☁️
It's irresistible for those who love spectacular views😁
There is also a parking lot at the base🚗
There are spaces to relax around the terrace, such as hammocks, so you can relax.
The inside of the building is also quite spacious, so you can kill time at the cafe while waiting for the sea of clouds to appear☕️
Originally operated as a ski resort, you can enjoy the view from this terrace outside of the season⛰
During the autumn foliage season, as the gondola moves from the foot of the mountain to the top, you can see the leaves changing color and feel the four seasons🍁
It is quite far from Tokyo, so you can go for a day trip, but I think you can spend more time relaxing if you stay overnight☕️
If you're interested, please come and visit😊

[Ride the Nagano Electric Railway] Shibu Onsen
#HotSpring
There is a line called Nagano Electric Railway from Nagano Station,
which connects to Shibu Onsenkyo.
(It might be better to call it Yudanaka Onsenkyo.)
These days, it is famous for its Spirited Away inns, and since ancient times,
Jigokudani Onsen's snow monkeys (monkeys that bathe in hot springs).
The train starts underground, and you can go to the hot springs while enjoying a panoramic view.
Vegetables are sold at the station and are very cheap.
Peaches are about half price.

[Shibu Onsen ①] A hot spring town famous for its "Tour of the Nine Baths."
#SummerWeekendTrip
Shibu Onsen is said to have a Spirited Away-like inn.
Traditional inns line the narrow stone-paved streets.
The specialty here is the "Kyuto Meguri" outdoor bath tour, and if you stay at an affiliated inn, you can visit nine small hot springs.
It is said that Shingen also stopped by, and there are foot baths in various places.
There are now dormitory accommodations, so if you are a hot spring enthusiast, why not give it a try?
(Check with your inn whether you can visit the nine baths.)

[Nagano] A hot spring inn where you can immerse yourself in the world of Spirited Away [Kanaguya]
Kanaguya is said to have been the model for the inn "Aburaya," the setting for Spirited Away! The retro, glittering building evokes the world of the movie everywhere. In fact, Kanaguya is a registered tangible cultural property! (?!) It is the only cultural property where you can actually stay overnight. Tours of the building are held in the evening, so if you want to know more about Kanaguya's history and the charm of its architecture, be sure to check it out! Kanaguya is also, of course, a hot spring inn. It has five hot springs of its own, with a total of eight baths in the building! How luxurious... 🤤
Shibu Onsen, where Kanaguya is located, is said to be highly rated by hot spring enthusiasts, as the hot springs are almost directly from the source. [Nagano] The mysterious ultramarine pond in Shiga Kogen [Onuma Pond]
There are several ways to get to Onuma Pond, but the shortest route is a hiking trail that takes 1 to 1.5 hours.
Even in late July, the temperature in the forest is around 20°C, making it refreshing to walk through.
The path is well-maintained, so it's recommended for beginners!
Depending on the location and weather, Onuma Pond can appear a blue close to emerald green or a mysterious ultramarine...
It's simply breathtakingly beautiful...!! (⊙⊙)

You can also ride the ropeway to SORA terrace, which has one of the highest cloud sea occurrence rates in Japan🚡. This will further increase your chances of encountering a sea of clouds.
Looking at the distant mountains while swaying in a hammock, enjoying a stylish and delicious dinner box and BBQ at night, and gazing at the starry sky while warming yourself by the bonfire are extraordinary experiences that will become irreplaceable memories.

5th photo → Sautéed Shinano snow trout with herbs
Enjoy the texture of the perilla leaves, myoga, mitsuba, and walnuts. Delicious.

Shunran no Yado Sakaeya
~Large public bath and open-air bath~
・The iron-rich brown hot spring from Jigokudani
・The hot spring containing many minerals such as sulfur
The water is a blend of two types of hot spring,
a slightly brownish cloudy water with an iron scent👀
The indoor bath is divided into two,
the front bath is normal depth,
but the back bath is 90cm deep!!!
The deeper bath has stones on the floor, so you can soak in the hot spring while doing acupressure on your feet👣
100% natural hot spring without adding water or heating♨️
It was a little too hot for me to stay in the bath for long, so it's probably around 42-43 degrees...🥺!!!

It's not as cloudy as Bath No. 3, but it's still a bit murky.
It smells a bit like iron! The bathtub was just right for 2-3 people, and it was easy to get in at about 41-2 degrees!!!
(Maybe they just warmed the water up to a nice temperature before me?)
7th-9th photos → First bath
A little cloudy water♨️
It's about 42 degrees, so it's hot at first, but once you get used to it, it's fine.
This bathtub is also just right for 2-3 people.
There are 9 baths, so I'll introduce them 3 at a time!!!

Nagano Shibu Onsen ♨️
Tour of the nine baths Bath 4 to Bath 6
The photos are arranged in the order of Bath 6, Bath 5, Bath 4!!!
This time, the photos are steamy again, but I hope you will watch over them kindly😇
1st to 3rd photos → Bath 6 Mearainoyu
A bathtub that can fit about 8 people♨️
The bathtub is made of light blue tiles, and has a cute retro feel!!
It's colorless and transparent, but there were a lot of hot spring deposits floating in it.
There were quite a few people in the bath, and it was a little warm at about 40 to 41 degrees, so it was easy to get in!!!
As the name suggests, it is effective for eye diseases!!!
4th to 6th photos → Bath 5 Matsunoyu
A bathtub that is just right for 2 to 3 people.
It's about 41 to 2 degrees, so it's still an easy temperature to get in👀
It's colorless and transparent, and there's not much of a sulfur smell.
It may have just been a coincidence, but the smell of dampness in the changing room was really strong 🥺
Effective for spinal diseases!!!
7th to 9th photos → Fourth Bath Take no Yu
This bath is also just right for 2 to 3 people.
Almost transparent water♨️
I heard someone say it was hot from the men's bath, so the women's bath was easy to enter, but it might actually be hot.
Effective for gout!!!
