📍Attraction Address:
The Eighteen Rapids scenic area in Pan'an, Zhejiang, is the source of the Cao'e River, situated in the northeast platform of Pan'an County, 50 kilometers from the county town. The Panxin Highway passes through the edge of the scenic area, making transportation convenient.
🌈Attraction Features:
Billions of years of geological changes have formed crisscrossing deep gorges, and with the erosion of glaciers and the scouring of flowing water, the largest and most complete glacial potholes in China have been left here, along with oddly shaped rocks scattered throughout, creating the geological wonder known as the 'Grand Canyon of Central Zhejiang'.
The relative height difference between the river valley and the plateau of the Eighteen Rapids is over 200 meters, with the stream winding and rushing, forming a series of waterfalls, dangerous rapids, and deep pools, among which the Eighteen Rapids are the most representative landscape. In the mountain forests, the source water is very clear, and its emerald green color is quite charming.
The Jiaxi Ancient Trail is the gateway to the Eighteen Rapids, controlling the north to Jinhua and connecting to Taiwan in the south. In the past, it was a major thoroughfare for the coastal areas to enter central Zhejiang, not only connecting trade but also serving as a military route. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, troops were stationed here to resist Japanese pirates, and the famous anti-Japanese general Qi Jiguang once built a fortress here. The Taiping Army of the Qing dynasty also passed through here to descend to Tiantai. The ancient trail still preserves the stone steps built, the ruins of the ancient military camps, and the passes.
Today, the Eighteen Rapids have become a famous geological wonder and scenic spot known far and wide. Here, one can deeply feel what is meant by 'clear mountains and beautiful waters'.
