2025 Mihara Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in March)

It has been a while… reminiscing the wonderful days we spent in Japan’s Hiroshima prefecture 3 years ago in Nov 2019. From losing our luggage at the start of the trip to the last few days of our stay at Hiroshima Airport Hotel, it was all worth it. It was our first ever autumn experience and it was magical! Started off the trip at Osaka-Kyoto-Nara, and travelled eastward to Himeji-Miyajima-Totori (sand dunes!) then ended off the trip at Hiroshima. I’ll let my photos do the rest of the talking (: Now that Covid-19 travel and safe management measures in Japan have eased, can’t wait to pack a trip back to the land of the rising sun again! Time to start planning… Japan here we come in 2023 and beyond!

Shiba Park offers a fantastic cherry blossom experience with one of the best backdrops in Tokyo—Tokyo Tower. This spacious park has several sakura-lined pathways and open grassy areas, making it ideal for hanami picnics. One of the best spots is the area near Zojoji Temple, where you can capture breathtaking views of cherry blossoms, the historic temple, and the iconic Tokyo Tower all in one frame. During the evening, the illuminated tower adds a magical touch to the pink petals. The park itself has a relaxed and local feel, with families, joggers, and couples enjoying the scenery. Since it’s not as famous as Ueno or Shinjuku Gyoen, it’s a great alternative for those who want a more peaceful yet stunning hanami experience. Whether you’re looking for a scenic walk, a picnic under the blossoms, or a unique Tokyo Tower view, Shiba Park is a must-visit!

DAY 50: Mobile Day Today is a very relaxing day of traveling. The road from Takehara City to Onomichi is built along the famous Seto Inland Sea. It is like riding on Provincial Highway 2. I pedal slowly, and the salty sea breeze blowing in my face makes me ride my bike leisurely at a speed that does not make me sweat. Tomoura Shrine is famous for its large torii gate facing the sea. This shrine is inseparable from the ocean both in terms of geographical location and historical significance. Next to the shrine is the ruins of Kagi Castle. I also met local people who brought their children here for a picnic. Tomoura Shrine holds the "Miyato Festival" every April. After having lunch at Matsuya in Mihara City, I stopped by the Senbonjima Residence of Oshima Shrine and the Mihara Castle Ruins. Mihara Castle faces the sea and is a famous city with castle and military port functions. When the tide is high, it looks like it is floating in the sea, so it is called a "floating city." Later, in 1894, the station building of the Sanyo Railway was built on the site of the Mihara Castle Honmaru. The Sanyo Main Line and the Shinkansen run through the Honmaru. Now only the remains of Tenshudai and the moat surrounding it, the remains of the Funairu Tower, and the remains of the Nakamon Gate remain. There are Oshima Shrines all over Japan. The shrine here should be just a branch shrine, but if you climb the stairs to the highest point, you can enjoy the scenery of the entire town. You can also pay a visit and pray for a safe and smooth journey. Hiroshima Airport Hotel 広島エアポートホテル is considered the # closest hotel to Hiroshima Airport. We had a late flight to Hiroshima, around 9 pm, and had an appointment to pick up a rental car at the airport in the morning. So we decided to find a hotel near the airport. We tried searching and this hotel was very popular. It was close, and the location was very good. It was next to Hiroshima Airport. There was a shuttle bus from the airport, but it was on time. If you run out of time, don't worry. We could easily walk to the hotel, which was only about 5 minutes. This was my first experience sleeping next to the airport like this. We booked separate single rooms so we could get plenty of rest and breakfast. We would be ready to go tomorrow ^^ The hotel was neither old nor new, but everything was comfortable like being at home. It was very clean and looked after well. The staff were lovely and provided fast service. Inside the room. This was a room with a view of the airport from the window. The room was spacious, with a very comfortable single bed, wide enough to roll around on. There was a sitting table, a work table, and many amenities. The bathroom was up to Japanese standards. We booked with breakfast. I have to say that the food here looks delicious at every station. The taste is good, especially the yogurt. I had 3 cups. ^^ A review to help those who are going to Hiroshima on a late flight. Try using this as a guideline to help you decide. A hotel that is within walking distance to the airport. Plus, you can walk to the passenger terminal in less than 10 minutes. It is convenient to travel to Hiroshima or other cities. It is easy to transfer to other transportation. I am very impressed. #Sankeien Garden, Hiroshima 三景園 A beautiful garden built to celebrate the opening of Hiroshima Airport, designed to look like the Seto Inland Sea and the Hiroshima Mountains. The garden is very close to the airport. As soon as you get off the plane and step out of Hiroshima Airport, you can walk or take a car to visit the garden. This is a traditional Japanese garden. It is beautiful even in the summer. In the fall, the leaves turn yellow, red, and orange. How beautiful will it be? You must come and see it in November and December. The weather is also cool and comfortable, perfect for walking around the garden. Enjoy the atmosphere continuously. This is 'Cafe Nejiru' located in Mihara City, Hiroshima Prefecture. 📍 8-14-25 Itozaki, Mihara City, Hiroshima Prefecture The first floor has an antique shop, and the second floor is a wonderful cafe with a view of the sea from the windows! I only intended to have a coffee, but when I entered the shop, the delicious smell of curry made me order some as well. It was Tako-tsubo Curry, which comes with Mihara City's specialty fried octopus and octopus sausage! The curry was served in a pot, and you pour it over your rice 🍛. The curry was mildly spicy, suitable for everyone, and very delicious! After the meal, I also enjoyed a chocolate brownie!

There were lots of dried flowers in the shop, and it was very cute 🌼 I was happy that they served seasonal flowers with the sweets! Hiroshima-style omelette is based on batter, with pork, vegetables, noodles and other ingredients added, and finally topped with special sauce and mayonnaise. I went to the "Oshima Shrine's Torii Gates" in Mihara City, Hiroshima Prefecture (((((((っ･ω･)っ A photogenic spot newly opened in November 2020✿ﾟ❀.(*´▽`*)❀.ﾟ✿ 62 torii gates stand on the stone steps∑(º ﾛº๑)❢❢ It can be seen from the window of the Sanyo Shinkansen, and it seems that more and more people are coming to see it because they are curious about it. (*≧∀≦)ﾉﾉﾞ Well, for motorbike riders who don't travel by Shinkansen, it's in a secluded location that you won't find unless you search for it on Instagram or the internet. (>ᗜ<*) To take a photo with the motorbike, you have to go through a fairly steep and narrow alley, so I recommend going there on a light motorbike that is easy to handle. #Sakura2024 It's a little-known spot, but it's a famous weeping cherry blossom spot known only to those in the know. The shrine itself is old, but it seems to be a historic and venerable shrine. There are few parking lots and it gets congested during cherry blossom season, but if you avoid lunchtime, you can enjoy the view at your leisure. It's less than 10 minutes from the Mihara-Kui IC on the highway, so if you're going by car, it's better to use the highway. The cherry blossoms in the temple grounds are nice, but I recommend the single weeping cherry tree near the old, dilapidated torii gate at the foot of the mountain. It's overwhelmingly beautiful when in full bloom. Surprisingly, many tourists miss it, so please check in advance before visiting.

Tonomine Senbonzakura on Sakijima Island in Hiroshima Prefecture🌸 Sakijima Island is an isolated island in the Seto Inland Sea, but it only takes 13 minutes to get there from the mainland by ferry🚣♀️ By the way, Sakijima Island is also known as the island closest to a Shinkansen station in Japan🚅 I've visited many cherry blossom spots in the Seto Inland Sea area, but this one is my favorite because it's so beautiful and a hidden gem that's not crowded🌸 The locals continued planting trees to protect their hometown with beautiful nature, and the current beautiful cherry blossom tunnel was created☺️🫧 It feels really good to cycle through the cherry blossom tunnel that goes all the way around🚲✨ It's a small hill, so the view of the Seto Inland Sea and cherry blossoms from the top is amazing💐. I went to Hiroshima for the first time. I stayed at a hotel in front of Hiroshima Station. There is construction in front of the station, but the station itself is beautiful. The tram is especially convenient and you can go to almost anywhere you want to go. What's more, the one-day pass is cheap and a good deal. There are also two-day and three-day passes. I also went to Itsukushima Shrine, one of the Three Most Scenic Places in Japan. I was really impressed. I highly recommend it. Miyajima has a wide variety of gourmet food and facilities, you can climb the mountain, and if you can't go around in a day, you can stay in a hotel on the island. Of course, the accommodation fee is high, but it is lit up at night, and you can see a spectacular view of the shrine. In Hiroshima city, I also recommend Peace Park and Hiroshima Castle. Both are popular and have many tourists.

This is a wonderful encounter between brushstrokes and nature. As soon as I set foot in this forest, I was attracted by the quiet atmosphere and beautiful scenery. 🏞️🌲 Biying Mountain is famous for its unique brushstroke shape and natural landscape. I strolled along the mountain trails, immersed in the embrace of nature. Every angle is like a painting, and I can almost see the painter's brushstrokes in it. ✍️🎨 I also brought a paintbrush and a drawing board to depict this beautiful scenery. Sitting on the mountainside, I felt the inspiration of nature flowing into my heart, transforming the mountains and trees into colors on the brush. It is a wonderful experience of communicating with nature. 🌳🖌️ Biying Mountain is a wonderful encounter between brushstrokes and nature. The mountains and scenery here are refreshing. Exploring Mihara was an interesting serendipitous by-product for my whirlwind tour of west Kansai region. Having some time between arriving at Mihara Station and leaving on the bullet train meant that I could explore what would turn out to be a convenient hop to the Ruins of the Mihara castle just next to the station. I stopped 3 girls who were relaxing and basking in the mild autumn evening breeze and setting sun to ask about the castle Ruins - turns out it was razed in a fire? I didn't Wikipedia this to fact check but in all honesty, what a relaxing experience this was to saunter around this lovely place :) if you have a book in hand, drink in another and some time, give this place a visit! #wheretogo

Access: 5 minutes walk from Mihara Station Address: 3-1-1, Shiromachi, Mihara, Hiroshima Fee: 6,500 yen one way A tourist boat that connects Mihara and Hiroshima. On the way, you can visit Okunoshima, famous for its rabbits, Osaki Shimojima, where the Edo townscape remains, Ondo Strait, which was excavated by Kiyomori, and Kure Port, where the Maritime Self-Defense Force base is located. This time, I took the afternoon westbound service from Mihara to Hiroshima. The service is at 13:30, but boarding is available until 13:15, and the boat departs at 13:25. The bottom of the boat is hollow, and the water contact area is reduced to increase speed. Inside the boat, the seats that were renovated for the G7 are left as G7 seats for a limited time. During the trip, the guide will carefully explain the view from the boat, so you won't get bored. Local sweets and alcohol are also sold on board. Setoda Lemon Chuhai is a reasonable price of 220 yen.
