Sheung Yiu Folk Museum is a statutory monument located in a Hakka village that once made a living by firing oyster shells. It was established around 1830 by the Hakka Huang family in Huizhou, Guangdong. The six-meter-high watchtower at the entrance of the village was once used to defend against pirates. The adjacent Hakka houses, drying yard and lime kiln ruins were listed as statutory monuments in 1981. The museum introduces the history and culture of Shangyao Village. It has a permanent exhibition of renovated Hakka houses, recreating the appearance of kitchens, cattle pens and pig sties. Exhibits include Hakka furniture and farm tools, with photos and text descriptions.
