Shell Beach in Western Australia is one of nature's magical ingenuity. In Shark Bay in the north of Western Australia, there is this dazzling Shell Beach. I have personally visited Western Australia, and local friends took me to appreciate this amazing spectacle. Shell Beach is located in Shark Bay, a World Natural Heritage Site in Western Australia, about 780 kilometers drive from Perth, the capital of Western Australia, and about 45 kilometers from Denham, the main town of Shark Bay. Coming here, I deeply appreciate the ingenious art of nature, the Shell Beach. Once in Shark Bay, signs lead us to Shell Beach. The tour guide gave a explanation at the entrance, explaining the reasons for the formation of this wonderful sight. The amazing thing about Shark Bay is that the beach is not made up of the usual sand, but tiny white seashells. This long beach, which is 60 kilometers long and has an average width of about 10 meters, is made up of billions of shells and is known as one of the most unique shell beaches in the world. The sign explains that the reason there are so many shells on Shell Beach is because there are no natural enemies of shellfish here, so they can reproduce in large numbers. After more than four thousand years of accumulation, this snow-white beach was formed. At present, the accumulated shells on the Shell Beach are up to 7 to 10 meters high. The beach stretches for more than 100 kilometers, and the depth of the shells is 7 to 10 meters. Coquina has formed, making this one of the whitest beaches in Australia. She also mentioned that in the past local residents used shells on the beach to build houses and make handicrafts. Now, this area has been designated as a protected area and listed as a World Natural Heritage Site as part of Shark Bay to better protect this magical white beach. Today, Shell Beach in the Shark Bay World Heritage Area is made up of billions of tiny shells, and the beach named after it has become a popular destination for swimming, beachcombing and sunbathing. Walking on the shell beach is unique. Incredibly, the entire beach consists of shells from just one type of animal, making it truly one-of-a-kind. The guide further explained that in the past, these shells were used as hard packing material and were cut into blocks for many of the historic buildings in the nearby town of Denham. And now, Shell Beach is protected and has become one of the few shell beaches on the planet, replacing it in such a fascinating and picturesque way. Dreamy and magical! The Western Australia Shell Beach that I saw with my own eyes is a one-kilometer-long beach covered with small snow-white shells. Whether digging or walking, the beauty of shells is everywhere. #thingstodo We liked this beach, especially because we could walk to it from the ship terminal area. It's in a lovely cove and covered with shells which are okay to lie on with a beach towel but walking on it to the water is nothing but tough unless you are wearing water shoes. The water is delightful and relatively calm - snorkelers are safe too. The lounges cost 50 Euros each - ridiculous - and the restaurant on the beach is a bit stuffy - the employees didn't want to bother with us rift raft. Be prepared for women going topless even though families were in the same area. This beautiful beach with pink shells on shore and in the water glows - lively, casual-elegant lunch spot Shellona has tables (in the sand), day rental chaises with umbrellas for 50E each and table service, and a nice bar for a coffee or snack up top inside. Gorgeous boutique Sunday is attached to the restaurant. Beach has rocks/coral just off short, steps into the water, so bring goggles or mask/snorkel to see fish, urchins, coral. There are boulders along the beach to find a little privacy nook for yourself, especially if you wish to sunbathe topless. Boats visit and you will see Sea-does pulling people around. Great for families and children, fun, music is playing from the restaurant. Easy parking, beach is just beyond Gustavia marina a few streets. Shellona has 15E valet parking if you wish. You can also easily walk into town for shops/ food/stroll along the harbor from there. Very easy beach access.
