Blowing up the wall with thousands of pictures, I really got my fill of looking at the mural tombs
Blowing up the wall with thousands of pictures, I really got my fill of looking at the mural tombs. The exhibition layout was very friendly, with each mural displayed at a 90-degree angle at eye level, making everything crystal clear. Thinking back to the time I spent 270 yuan at the Shaanxi History Museum to see the Tang Dynasty mural treasures exhibition makes me want to cry.

Travelicious Tastes
I discovered the skill of time travel at the Shanxi Museum
Today, I stepped into a unique 'restaurant'—the Shanxi Museum, where the offerings are historical 'delicacies' and cultural 'feasts.'
As soon as I entered the museum, I was deeply attracted by the ancient and elegant architectural style. It felt as if, in an instant, I had traveled back to ancient times, standing amidst ancient palaces. These buildings are not just simple exhibition halls; they are artworks in themselves, telling the ancient stories of Shanxi.
Walking through the museum, I felt as if I was traversing the long river of history. From ancient stone tools and pottery to exquisite jade and bronze wares, and to the breathtaking calligraphy and paintings, each exhibit seemed to be telling its own story. I particularly liked the models of ancient buildings; they are so delicate and detailed, as if the ancient palaces and temples were miniaturized and placed before my eyes.
Standing in front of those ancient building models, I seemed to hear the breaths of ancient craftsmen meticulously creating them, feeling their dedication and pursuit of craftsmanship. These ancient buildings are not only treasures of Shanxi but also treasures of Chinese civilization.
The Shanxi Museum not only allowed me to appreciate the elegance of ancient architecture but also made me feel the profoundness of Chinese civilization. If you are also interested in ancient architecture and historical culture, you must come here to walk around and take a look. I believe you will be as deeply attracted by everything here as I was.

📌Little Tips:
1. There are many treasures in the Shanxi Museum, and it is impossible to see everything in one day if you carefully observe each exhibition hall. It is recommended to first choose the theme exhibition hall that interests you the most. I entered the museum right when it opened at 9 am, and in the morning, I visited the 'Architectural Splendor' and 'Buddhist Charm' halls. In the afternoon, I visited the 'Melting Pot of Ethnicities', and for the other halls, I could only have a quick look and hurried through, so that I barely finished all the exhibition halls by the time the museum closed.
2. The services of Shanxi Museum are quite in place. In addition to regular explanations and audio guides, there are also free services for luggage storage (including large suitcases), baby strollers, and wheelchairs.

Taiyuan's traffic lights have their own bicycle symbols
Taiyuan actually has special bicycle traffic lights, and as someone from the south, this is the first time I've seen them.
It's easier to get around than I thought.
🍽 Dining Recommendations:
Laojunying Snack Street: All snacks, the guokui is good, and the mung bean cake is also good, not too sweet.
Xinghuatang: The yellow rice jelly is absolutely amazing, the best in the show; there's something like Buddha Jumps Over the Wall that's also good, I forgot the exact name; Slightly Plum can be ordered, there are several fillings, just choose one you like. There's a stage in the middle of the hall, and you can also see opera performances.
Bingzhou Dapaidang: Taiyuan is also known as Bingzhou, so Bingzhou Dapaidang is Taiyuan Dapaidang. You must try the rock and roll oat noodles, the sweet and sour meatballs are also worth ordering, and I think the chicken shredded cold noodles are better than the stall's Liukou noodles.
Lao Liu Steamed Dumplings·Halal Restaurant: You have to go in the morning, they're gone by noon, you should eat the Jiao Quan, which seems to be also called Ma Ye, it's basically flour mixed with brown sugar and then fried in hot oil. Recommended.
Xiao Wang Breakfast: It seems to be opposite the Normal University, a place to eat Taiyuan breakfast, still have to eat Ma Ye.
Old Taiyuan Restaurant: If you have enough time, you can go there, there are a lot of people, just look and order.
Jin cuisine is mainly too large in portion, if there are many people, you can order a lot.
✅ Must Experience:
Shanxi Museum Shanxi Bronze Museum Jinci Park Jin Merchant Museum
Especially the first two, you can also collect stamps, very proud.
Outside Jinci, a whole street is full of food, 15 yuan a cup of pomegranate juice is okay.
🚉 Travel Tips:
Taiyuan is the same, just scan the code. Buy a bicycle card, and you can ride at will.
OPAL MORRIS
Shanxi Museum, you really know how to enjoy yourself! There's even this way to appreciate flowers in spring
Let's highlight the key points: This exhibition brings together masterpieces from famous artists such as Luo Pin, Zhu Da, Zheng Xie, Xu Beihong, and Zhang Daqian, displaying more than 70 exquisite flower and bird paintings!
Flower and bird painting is a continuation of our country's traditional cultural development, permeated with profound humanistic connotations. From the Ming and Qing dynasties to the present, flower and bird works have become a medium that conveys emotions more easily than landscape paintings. The exhibition is divided into three units:
Unit One | 'New Paulownia, First Appeal - Aesthetic Empathy in Flower and Bird Painting'
Flower and bird painting integrates the natural attributes of flowers and birds with humanistic meanings, complementing each other. This is where paintings of the 'Four Gentlemen' - plum, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum - come from. Masterpieces such as Luo Pin's 'Ink Plum', Zhu Da's 'Lotus and Mandarin Ducks', and Zheng Xie's 'Orchid and Bamboo' are on display here.
Unit Two | 'Fragrance in Painting - The Form and Spirit Relationship in Flower and Bird Painting'
Chinese painting highly values the creation of artistic conception. As an aesthetic concept, artistic conception is an artistic expression of the painter's specific cultural mood, a pursuit of artistic transformation and expression. In Xu Beihong's 'Banana Leaves', Wu Changshuo's 'Agarwood', and Zhang Daqian's 'Lotus', one can explore the inner feelings during creation.
Unit Three | 'Romantic Flower Language - Auspicious Meanings in Flower and Bird Painting'
Chinese flower language appears in pattern form, becoming a representative pattern with unique Chinese characteristics. The symbolic meanings in flower and bird paintings are roughly divided into two types: using the natural attributes of flowers to reflect cultivation and realm; using relatively fixed pattern forms to express life's aspirations and symbolize auspiciousness and happiness.
A world in a flower, a bodhi in a leaf. Different flower languages become artistic expressions of people's pursuit of a beautiful life. Whether refined or worldly, the language of flowers always holds a place of beauty and romance in people's hearts.

Taiyuan | Shanxi Museum
Visiting the museum requires an advance reservation, especially during holidays, when it's really crowded. However, during the holidays, the Shanxi Museum sometimes arranges for visitors to queue up after 4 pm, and there are a lot of people waiting in line, taking about half an hour to get in.
The Shanxi Museum is one of the first batch of national first-class museums, a national museum cultivation object jointly built by the central and local governments, and the largest center in Shanxi for the collection, preservation, protection, research, and exhibition of cultural relics. Representative exhibits include the Marquis of Jin's bird zun, the Houma Covenant, Hu Fu's wine vessel, the animal-shaped goblet, the Meidigou painted pottery jar, the painted goose and fish bronze lamp, the bronze chariot for the footless man guarding the park, the stone sarcophagus from Yu Hong's tomb, and the six-piece jade pendant string.
The museum is well planned, with a clear and detailed visiting route, and a rich variety of cultural and creative products. There are a lot of people stamping their visit.

Explore the Shanxi Museum and touch the "Jin Soul"
The Shanxi Museum is located at No. 13, North Section of Binhe West Road, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. It is one of the first batch of national first-class museums, and its predecessor was the Shanxi Educational Library Museum established in the eighth year of the Republic of China (1919).
The exhibition area of the Shanxi Museum is 13,000 square meters, and the cultural relics warehouse area is 12,000 square meters. It has a collection of more than 500,000 items, featuring bronzes, porcelain, stone carvings, Buddhist statues, murals, calligraphy, and paintings. The basic display is themed around "Jin Soul".
The five-thousand-year civilization can be seen in Shanxi. It is said that the three figures Yao, Shun, and Yu were all born in Shanxi. The ancient land of Sanjin has left too many footprints of Chinese civilization, and the Shanxi Museum is also worth your careful appreciation.
After browsing, my personal favorite is the Northern Qi green-glazed dragon-handled chicken-head pot (Figure 2), which is 50.5 cm high, with a mouth diameter of 11 cm and a base diameter of 13 cm, unearthed in 1981. The dish mouth is slightly open, with the dragon's mouth holding the lip, the dragon's neck connecting to the belly, a fine high neck, a bulging belly, with three knobs on each side, and a treasure-flower attached below the middle knob; the belly has ridges, with four spread-winged phoenix birds attached below. The overall glaze is bright, and both the shape and material are exquisite, looking particularly textured.
Friends who love Chinese civilization and the history of Shanxi, come and explore the Shanxi Museum to touch the "Jin Soul" up close.

The Fen Yang Tai Fu Temple's 28 constellations are actually hidden in the Shanxi Museum
In the Shanxi Museum, I saw the colored sculptures of the 28 constellations from the Fen Yang Tai Fu Temple. At first, I thought they were replicas, but it wasn't until I noticed the "safety belts" on them that I asked the administrator if photography was allowed. The answer I got was "Feel free to take pictures if you like"‼️
🏯About Fen Yang Tai Fu Temple
The colored sculptures + hanging sculptures of Fen Yang Tai Fu Temple hold a place in my heart that is at least in the top ten of all ancient Shanxi architecture. The original Ziwu Pavilion collapsed, but the colored sculptures of the 28 constellations were preserved. Eight of them were "invited" to be exhibited in the Shanxi Museum, while one remains in the temple.
🌟The 28 Constellations
🐉Eastern Azure Dragon: Horned Dragon, Neck Dragon, Root Ferret, Room Rabbit, Heart Fox, Tail Tiger, Winnowing Basket Leopard
🦚Southern Vermilion Bird: Well Wood Badger, Ghost Metal Sheep, Willow Earth Deer, Star Day Horse, Extended Net Moon Deer, Wings Fire Snake, Chariot Water Worm
🐯Western White Tiger: Legs Wood Wolf, Bond Metal Dog, Stomach Earth Pheasant, Hairy Head Day Chicken, Net Moon Crow, Beak Fire Monkey, Three Water Monkey
🐢Northern Black Tortoise: Dipper Wood Hyaena, Ox Gold Ox, Girl Earth Bat, Emptiness Day Rat, Rooftop Moon Swallow, Encampment Fire Pig, Wall Water Deer
🤔Some Questions
When I visited Fen Yang Tai Fu Temple, all the colored sculptures were prohibited from photography. What impressed me the most were the 28 constellations, only one of which remained in the temple and was strictly off-limits for photography, claiming that taking pictures would damage the artifacts. So how come it's allowed to take pictures freely in the Shanxi Museum? The treasures left by our ancestors are not to be photographed just because they say so, is such a "regulation" reasonable? Since the Shanxi Museum allows photography, there must be relevant scientific evidence, so why is there such great resistance to taking a picture in the counties and cities below?
I love Shanxi
But I hate the "regulations" that prohibit photography‼️
Please respect science
Let the cultural relics come to life and pass on the cultural context‼️
Demond DuBuque
Shanxi Provincial Museum, it's better than Shijiazhuang anyway
I suggest stamping first and then looking for them one by one
(Of course, every museum recommends this way of visiting)
If you didn't bring a book, you can buy a cultural creative ice cream, tear open the box, and it will be even more memorable
It's pretty good, but it's a bit too fond of birds, bird keepers all come to visit, you guys must be very happy, because basically in the cultural relics area, there's a bird every three steps 💦💦💦 (It's a bit of an exaggeration but anyway...

Taiyuan-Jinzhong Travel Guide
🌟 Taiyuan-Jinzhong Travel Guide 🌟
Due to changes in the New Year's plan, I chose the journey from Taiyuan to Jinzhong. Shanxi gives me the impression that it is low-key, with many historical sites and low consumption; the people are enthusiastic and real, and the kind drivers and tour guides add color to the journey; the New Year's atmosphere is strong, and the festive atmosphere can be felt everywhere.
🏯 Twin Tower Temple 🏯
👍 Fun part: Climb the tower to experience the heaviness of history and overlook the beautiful scenery of Taiyuan.
💼 Preparation: Dress comfortably and pay attention to safety when climbing the tower.
💔 Pitfall to avoid: The stairs inside the tower are narrow and it is not easy to pass side by side when there are many people.
🍜 Liuxiang, Bell and Drum Tower, Food Street 🍜

A Two-Day Tour in Taiyuan!!!
Taiyuan in Shanxi is a seriously underrated treasure of a tourist city, and I highly recommend eight essential tourist attractions. Shanxi Museum: (Highlight) Free, online reservation required. For terrestrial relics, look to Shanxi; Shanxi Museum has a rich collection, and it is recommended to see the Jin State Hegemony and the Buddhist Charm. The museum's treasure is the Marquis of Jin's bird zun. The first floor has a cultural and creative shop, and those who like to collect stamps should remember to bring a notebook.
China Coal Museum: The ticket is 60 yuan. After visiting the Shanxi Museum, take the opportunity to tour the Coal Museum, where you can experience a mine and feel the development history of the coal province.
Chunyang Palace: The ticket is 30 yuan. It was built at the end of the Song Dynasty and the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty. It is a Taoist temple for worshipping Lu Dongbin, one of the Eight Immortals, hence the name Chunyang Palace. Inside, there are two cultural relics forbidden to leave the country: one is the Nirvana Transformation Stele from the time of Empress Wu Zetian, and the other is the Tang Dynasty 'Changyang Tianzun Statue'.
Shanxi Businessmen Museum: Free, it has been the highest administrative organ in Shanxi since the Ming Dynasty, and it was the location of the provincial government until 2021. You can learn about the development history of Shanxi merchants. (Close to the food street)
Food Street Zhonglou Street: (Highlight) In Food Street, you can taste snacks from all over the country. Zhonglou Street forms a T-shape with Food Street and is one of the busiest streets in Taiyuan. There are many time-honored brands, such as Xueshan Cold Drinks, Liuweizhai, Renyili, Qingheyuan, Mouse Hole Yuanxiao, God's Fried Chicken, etc., especially in the evening when the lights are on, the colors are dazzling, the tourists are like weaving, and it is extraordinarily lively. It is a must-visit pedestrian street for tourists to Taiyuan.
Jinci: (Highlight) The ticket is 80 yuan, and it is far from the city center, but there is a direct bus 856. Jinci is the only existing imperial ancestral temple, with Nanlao Spring, Maid Statue, and Zhou Cypress known as the 'Three Wonders of Jinci'. There are halls and pavilions from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, various ancient buildings, Song Dynasty clay sculptures, and eight-pillar coiled dragons.
Taiyuan Ancient County Town: Free, it is recommended to enter from the east gate, where the filming location of the movie 'Man Jiang Hong' is located, instantly transporting you to ancient Jinyang. It is a perfect place for national style photography.
Taiyuan Botanical Garden: It has been recently built, covering a very large area, combining pristine ecology with technology. It is recommended to check out the popular elevator and the tropical rainforest pavilion. The entire botanical garden is very suitable for photography. Very photogenic.
If you have time, you can visit the Twin Pagoda Temple, which is a symbolic building of Taiyuan, standing for 400 years without falling.

Shanxi is definitely an underestimated treasure place. The people in Shanxi we met this week are really very hospitable and enthusiastic. Using Dong Yuhui's words, 'Time seems to favor this land of Shanxi, so it leaves many traces of its past here.' Only by coming here in person can you feel its unique charm.
Because each place is far apart, it is recommended to charter a car to go!

The permanent exhibition 'Buddhist Charm' at Shanxi Provincial Museum displays a wonderful collection of Buddhist statues from the Northern Dynasties, especially those rare ones carved from marble in other parts of China. It is well worth a visit for those who are interested.
Vincenzo Waters
When I came to Taiyuan, the Shanxi Museum had to look at this museum, which is rich in collections. It was founded in 1919 and has a history of just over a hundred years. All kinds of exquisite bronzes, pottery, Buddha statues, stone carvings, etc. in the pavilion showcase the most essential parts of Shanxi's history, which is amazing. Figure 2 is not a bit like the Chinese version of the angry bird, it is too cute; unfortunately one of the treasures of the earthquake hall, the "Bird Zun" original did not see in the repair. Shanxi has a long history and a rich cultural heritage. It is very necessary to visit the museum in Shanxi. It is necessary to visit the museum with ID card.
