The Shanghai Museum is one of the three major museums in China. During one of trips to Shanghai about 5 years ago one of the places we've been to is the Yu Garden also know as Yuyuan. It lies next to the City God Temple in Shanghai’s Old City, which was dedicated to the city’s spirits, or protectors, in the 1400s. The classic Chinese-style gardens, complete with rockeries, ponds, pavilions and towers, feature several distinct areas separated by grey tiled ridges called “dragon walls”. The area surrounding the gardens holds endless opportunities to try street food and buy souvenirs. If you can’t make it to Suzhou in Jiangsu province, which is better known for its gardens, Yuyuan will surely not failed you. Next is Shanghai Disneyland. Many of the rides, attractions and characters have been redesigned to cater to a Chinese tourist audience. A group of Chinese zodiac gardens make up its centre – with the 12 animals represented by Disney characters – and instead of Main Street USA, there is Mickey Avenue. There’s also more live entertainment here than in other Disney theme parks. It’s a great choice if you need a break from traditional sightseeing in Shanghai And if ever you feel tired being surrounded by tourist crowds, I highly recommended Wan Shan bird and flower market. Flowers are sold alongside pet birds, fish, chinchillas and even crickets – from the tiny to the unnervingly massive – in this market, which sits at the junction of Tibet Road and Huiji Road. You’ll also find potted plants, such as bonsai trees and succulents, on sale. Antiques and jade are also sold nearby, in case you’re good for small mammals, and your aquarium and window box are both fully stocked. Temples can be a great way to find peace within the noise of Shanghai tourism and city life in general, whether or not you are religious. My personal favorite was the calligraphy exhibition. Food & Restaurants - There are places where you can buy drinks and snacks. I unfortunately didn’t have much time when I went but I saw plenty of other visitors with headsets. Not sure what the language options are but if you have enough time, I’d recommend getting a pair. I stayed for about 2 hours but I’d recommend over 3 hours if you don’t have a time constraint. 🧭 Shanghai History Museum is one of the most interesting museums were you can learn really a lot. 🧭 Getting there these days you need to make a reservation through wechat. Otherwise there is no way to get inside. Arrive in time, stand for a while in a line and here u go. You DO need and audio guide, cause without it you will be wondering around without knowing anything. 🧭 The couns exhibition hall is quite impressive, it showed Chinese coins of all kinds and shapes, some of them are bigger than my hand. The halls with traditional paintings and ceramis are amazing as well. The Shanghai Museum is hosting a display from a Tang Dynasty shipwreck. Many examples of exquisitely made porcelain from all over ancient China illustrate how the maritime Silk Road worked. Worth an hour to visit, but be sure to book in advance and all tickets for the day were sold out by 11am. #triplocal

The Shanghai Museum was founded in 1952. The new museum was built and put into use in 1996. It is located in Renmin Avenue, Huangpu District, across the road from the famous Peoples Square, which eats fried chicken. The building of the Shanghai Museum looks particularly like a cornucopia from the outside. Baidu Encyclopedia said that the overall structure is a combination of a square base and a round out of the building, with the meaning of China's round place. I probably believe it this way. A few basic exhibitions, the first one I went to was the ancient ceramics hall. Oops, sigh, its really a lot of good things that have never been concentrated on a large scale. Collections can best reflect the basic level of a museum. A single piece of boutique can find a lot of angles to elaborate and express, not to mention these series of fine cultural relics, and think carefully, only to be thankful that they are not engaged in cultural relics research.

#discoverchina One can never visit Shanghai without visiting the iconic Shanghai Museum. If one were to do so, it’s like a man missing the opportunity to get culturally educated and inspired and it is one of the best curated museums in Shanghai. As it was their local school holiday on the date of our visit, the entrance was extremely crowded with long queues of visitors. It could be the tight security screening at the entrance that hindered the queue from shortening quickly. We spent at least half an hour to queue in order to enter the museum. Inside the museum, there were different levels catering to different types of artifacts and history to be shared. During my visit the 1st floor of the museum has been occupied by a big Egyptian special exhibit (which charges a quite high entrance fee, and doesn’t seem to warrant a visit), the content of the 3rd floor of the museum has been moved out to the Shanghai Museum East Building. The available exhibits are Marco Polo special exhibit (on the 2nd floor), and the All things glittering exhibit, the Ming-Qing Furniture exhibit, and the Chinese Minority Nationality Art exhibit on the 4th floor. The entire exhibit can be visited in about a hour.
