Shanghai Yangpu Riverside Marriott Hotel check-in experience: Cost-effective and unique
I recently stayed at the Shanghai Yangpu Riverside Marriott Hotel, and my overall experience was decent. Here's a detailed review.
I. Hotel Basic Information
- 🏠 Location: The hotel was rebranded from the Wyndham Grand Plaza Royale Shanghai, located in the Internet of Things hub, and may have many corporate clients with negotiated rates.
- 💰️ Average Cost: Working day prices are high, and the price-performance ratio is not outstanding for individual customers. My rate was CNY 333, which was relatively affordable. The breakfast add-on isn't expensive, around CNY 50 per person when booking, which I recommend.
II. Room Layout and Space
- 🏘️ Room Type/Layout: Thanks to the shift manager, I was upgraded to a Deluxe Riverside View King Room facing east and south, with a clear view of the Yangpu Bridge. Due to being on the 25th floor, the view of the Huangpu River was somewhat limited. I stayed in a City View King Room, which was newly renovated, but the bathroom looked old. The overall space layout was reasonable and met basic needs.
III. Amenities and Facilities
- 🛌 Amenities/Facilities: The minibar in the room is chargeable, but there's no price list. The gym equipment is new and offers a good experience. The hotel swimming pool is usually open from 8am to 8pm, a 25m long pool with constantly bubbling water. However, it was closed from January 28th to 31st due to lifeguard issues. The newly renovated rooms have a slight renovation smell, so you can ask the hotel to open the windows for ventilation. The soundproofing is good, ensuring a quiet resting environment. The hygiene is good, and the rooms are cleaned well.
- Service Experience: The service is basic. During the Chinese New Year period, there was a staff shortage, resulting in long wait times for check-in. Some rooms weren't available until 6pm, with the front desk explaining that the rooms hadn't been cleaned yet. However, the Executive Lounge service was a highlight. The front desk staff in the lounge from 5:30pm to 6:30pm were warm and welcoming. Afternoon tea in the lounge offered three kinds of fresh-cut fruit: melon, watermelon, and pineapple, which were sweet and refreshing. The palmiers were also delicious. The Happy Hour food was delicious. The sweet and sour pork ribs were perfectly chosen, easy to chew, and lean. The lemon boneless chicken feet and spicy wood ear mushrooms were also good, just a bit spicy.
IV. Other Suggestions
- 💗 Other tips: The Executive Lounge is on the 1st floor, in the opposite direction of the elevators to the lobby. The free Executive Lounge is marked "club," while "lounge" indicates the lobby bar. If you have high expectations for hotel prestige and standards, and your budget allows, choose an original Marriott hotel rather than a rebranded one.
V. Conclusion
While the Shanghai Yangpu Riverside Marriott Hotel falls short in terms of service standards and prestige, it has its highlights in room views, dining, and some facilities. If the price is right, and you don't have high brand expectations, it's worth considering a stay.
