Exhibition Introduction: Over 80 representative paintings by four famous Shanghai artists, Zhu Qizhan, Wang Yachen, Wang Geyi, and Qian Shoutie, will be exhibited, showcasing the beauty of the inheritance, diversity, and integration of Haipai culture.
Zhu Qizhan, Wang Yachen, Wang Geyi, and Qian Shoutie, all born in the late 19th century, studied in Japan and developed unique painting styles. They either sought innovation or adhered to traditional methods, representing the second generation of Haipai painters after early masters like Ren Bonian, Zhao Zhiqian, and Wu Changshuo. In the mid-20th century, these four artists were active in the Shanghai art scene for a long time and were honored as the "Four Elders of Shanghai" for their outstanding artistic achievements and long-lasting careers.
Foggy Words: I was captivated by the works of "Goldfish King" Wang Yachen among the "Four Elders of Shanghai" and became a fan. Wang's works, with fish swimming and water flowing, are lively, bright, and light, which I personally believe better reflect the spirit of Haipai.
