Spain - The Marvelous Village of Cave Houses!
📍Setenil de las Bodegas in Spain, which means 'wine cellars', is named after its once thriving wine trade.
Nowadays, there are fewer wineries, but it is still famous for its delicious olives and almonds.
💙This town is most famous for its unusual cave houses built directly under the massive rocks of a deep gorge. The gorge was naturally formed by the water of a creek below.
💙In prehistoric times, it is believed that cavemen (troglodytes) lived in the caves of this village.
In modern times, villagers have built houses between the rocks to prevent it from being too hot in summer and too cold in winter.
📍The main street in Setenil de las Bodegas, Calle Cuevas del Sol, which means 'Caves of the Sun Street', is built under a huge overhanging rock.
This street is home to many cave restaurants and is definitely worth a visit.
