Baekryunsa Temple One Month Temple Stay
7 years ago, I was tired of my daily life and needed a rest, so I stayed at Baekryunsa Temple in Gangjin, Jeollanam-do for a month. In the morning, birds called me. Then. I woke up thinking it was breakfast time. Breakfast time is 07:00, lunch 12:00, dinner 17:00. Here, the temple food is 👍
Then, I ate breakfast and took a walk around. It is a walking course from Baekryunsa Temple to Dasan Chodang and back. It takes 1 hour to go around Dasan Chodang. It is also famous as the place of exile of Jang Yak-yong. There is a hiking trail, but the peak is Mandeoksan Gitdaebong, the back mountain of Baekryunsa Temple. It took about 1 hour to go round trip.
It is also called Mandeoksa Temple (萬德寺) because it is located on Mandeoksan Mountain (408m). The temple was founded in 839 (1st year of King Munseong) at the end of the Unified Silla period by Monk Muyeom (無染). The temple is said to have been founded as Mandeoksa after the name of the mountain, and was recently renamed Baekryeonsa.
During the Goryeo Dynasty, Buddhism was revered, and the temple's influence expanded under the leadership of Wonmyo State Preceptor Yose (了世). However, during the Joseon Dynasty, monks were looked down upon due to the anti-Buddhist policy, and Baekryeonsa began to decline. In addition, the southern coast area was a Goryeo celadon and granary area, and was driven to the brink of ruin by Japanese pirates who frequently appeared for the purpose of plundering, and the temple barely managed to survive. It was rebuilt around 1170 by the chief priest Wonmyo (圓妙), but the full-scale restoration began in 1426 during the reign of King Sejong of Joseon, when the chief priest Haengho (行乎) carried out the second restoration, and Baekryeonsa began to regain its former appearance. Large-scale restoration work began in 1430, and Prince Hyoryeong helped greatly. Prince Hyoryeong gave up the throne to his younger brother (Sejong) and traveled around the country, entering Baekryeon Temple in Gangjin and staying there for 8 years. During the third renovation during the reign of King Hyojong, a pagoda and a monument were erected.
Daeungjeon (大雄殿) is a building with a hip roof with 3 bays in the front and 3 bays on the side, and 4 pilasters are erected on each eave to support the building, and the 2 pillars in the front are decorated with dragon heads, and it is a multi-layered building with well-painted Dancheong (丹靑).
In addition, there are buildings such as Shiwangjeon (十王殿), Nahanjeon (羅漢殿), Mangyeongru (萬景樓), and Chilseonggak (七星閣). In front of the temple, there are camellia forests (natural monuments) with zelkova trees, cinnamon trees, and zelkova trees, creating a spectacular view.
Monthly living expenses. It was 600,000 won 7 years ago, but now. I don't know.
