[2025 Tromso Stay] Travel Guide for Scandic Grand Tromsø (Updated Mar)

I had a good stay at Scandic Grand Tromsø for one night in a double bed room. The room was comfortable, and the hotel offered a great balance of convenience and amenities. Breakfast was included, with a nice selection of options to start the day. The hotel features a snack bar in the lobby, and a laundry room that is free to use, though with a limited number of machines—a useful addition for longer stays. The shuttle bus service from the hotel to the airport also made transportation hassle-free. Overall, it was a pleasant stay with good facilities. The hotel is near Tromsø Domkirke and well-located in the city area, making it a convenient choice for visitors to Tromsø. I would definitely recommend it! #tromsø

Here were what we did on our trips; 1st Day; Arriving in Tromso, and took Airport Express bus to the city center which only located 15minutes away. Tickets for bus were bought beforehand. We stayed at Scandic Grand Tromso which was also close to the harbour and other pickup points for tour. We arrived before our check in time and we took the opportunity to look around the city. 2nd Day; a) Huskies Ride The station for the huskies ride was a bit far from the city. We rode a bus provided by the travel agency from Tromso harbour around 0930 for more than 90minutes. It was a long ride but definitely worth it. I personally think it was the most memorable moment for me. b) Aurora Lights In the evening at 1830 we have to catch another ride to view aurora lights. (Ps; I would not recommend to do two activities in a day as it can drained your energy so much). 3day; Silent Whale Watching We rode a catamaran in the morning to view some orcas and humpback whales in their habitat.

End of 2022 During the Christmas holiday, I ran to Norway with my friends and had a blue dream. Tromsø, North latitude 69°20', because it is north of the Arctic Circle, there will be polar nights in winter. Here you can see the aurora and go out to sea to chase whales. The weather in Tromsø is much better than in Iceland. There are no blizzards and the temperature is not very cold. It is much more comfortable to come to Tromsø than to go to Iceland. Eleven o'clock is dawn, two or three in the afternoon is dusk. Although it's daytime, you can't see the sun. We were lucky this time. The locals told us that in previous years, it would reach minus 20 or 30 degrees Celsius, but this year the coldest was only minus 10 degrees. During the day, it's basically between zero and minus five degrees, so it doesn't feel very cold. Transportation: 🚕Taxi 🚌Bus are both convenient in Tromsø, and the city is small. From the city center to the airport by taxi takes only 5-7 minutes. TaxiFix app is not very useful in Tromsø for taking taxis. Public transportation app Troms Billet Self-driving: There are many car rental companies near the airport. If you have a self-driving demand, you need to book the car in advance. The price will be much cheaper. (Pay attention to safety when driving in winter.) If you want to walk, it's also no problem. Dress warmly and take a walk to see more scenery. 🏨Accommodation: We stayed at Scandic Grand Tromso, which has a great location. It only takes a two-minute walk to get to the 711. Tromso is really small, so there won't be much difference in staying elsewhere. Staying near the commercial street makes it convenient to go anywhere. 🏞Attractions: In Tromsø, you can visit the Arctic Cathedral, take a cable car to see the city's scenery, go whale watching 🐳, chase the Northern Lights, go dog sledding, and see reindeer. ❗️On Christmas Day, 12.25, many restaurants and shops in Tromsø are closed. Most European countries also close their shops and restaurants on this day. If you go out on this day, prepare some food. 7-Eleven is open, but check the opening hours as they may close early on this day. Hotels still provide breakfast as usual.
