On the first day of the Dragon Year, I first visited the Borneo Cultures Museum (the new wing of the Sarawak Museum) in the rain. The old wing, which is just across the pedestrian overpass, opened in 1891. The white building has the style of Normandy row houses. It is said that the museum exhibits folklore, natural and geographical history, etc., and it only opens at 2:30 PM!? Fortunately, the rain just stopped, so I took a walk around the small botanical garden, the square, the heroes' monument... glancing around now and then. There's a bit of a European courtyard garden style, but it's a pity that I mostly couldn't understand the Malay text...

The museum was founded at the end of the 19th century by Charles Brooke under the influence of the British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace, who at that time was studying the Malay archipelago.
