Sapporo City Maruyama Zoo is located in the central district of Sapporo, with very convenient transportation, only a 15-minute walk from Maruyama Park Station, thus attracting a considerable number of local people and tourists. Entering the park, you first arrive at the “African Animal Zone”, where giraffes, hippos and lion pavilions are located. The nearby "Asian Animal Zone" contains the Tropical Rainforest Pavilion, the Alpine Pavilion, etc., and further inside there are the Elephant and Ape Pavilion. Today, we would like to visit the little ones. We are at Maruyama Zoo, the zoo in Sapporo. It has been open for over 70 years. The entrance fee is not expensive at only 800 yen. The zoo may not be very big, but there are many little ones waiting to welcome you (they say there are over 200 species of animals), such as owls, monkeys, elephants, kangaroos, reptiles, giraffes, tigers, red pandas, seals, penguins, and others (I can't mention them all, there are so many). The highlight here is the Polar Bear. It is very cute. We can watch it from above through the glass. We can see it walking around (it is a bit green, I don't know what it is getting into), eating (it has a fight with the regular crow that likes to steal its food), or watch it from below in the underwater tunnel. We can watch it dive and swim, showing its bottom to compete with the seals. The park is divided into areas by theme, such as the African Zone and the Asian Zone, and more than 170 species of animals are raised and exhibited in an environment close to nature. In ethe, the underwater tunnel newly built in the "Pork Bear Museum", which opened in 2018, is a must-see. Polar bears can be seen swimming gracefully in the water up close. In addition, Maruyama Zoo also plays an educational role in conveying the importance of nature conservation through contact with animals, and there is no doubt that children and adults will enjoy it.

Very nice Zoo kids friendly or should I say family friendly 😍 easy to access from Sapporo station take Namboku subway line to Odori station then transfer to Tozai line stop in Maruyama keon station. Exit walk towards the bus station that going to Maruyama Zoo. If you want to go back to Sapporo take the same route. Instead stop in Sapporo station you can stop in Susukino station instead if you want to go shopping after the Zoo trip or having dinner. We stay 15 days in Sapporo. First 7 days we stay in Mitsui Garden Hotel then the we transfer to Keio Plaza Hotel. #travel every six months to Japan every summer in Tokyo, every winter in Sapporo 😍

The good thing about Maruyama Zoo is that it is easy to get to by subway from Sapporo city, and that the zoo is designed so that visitors can see the animals' faces clearly, so that they can enjoy themselves. #thingstodo Visited back in the Summer 2023. Arrived first thing in the morning just prior to opening. The zoo looks small at first but once you get in, it's spread out. The animals are well cared for and the staff seemed friendly. At at the 'coke' restaurant where I grabbed some curry. It was hot and delicious with fair pricing. Staff was friendly. Not much English should be needed minus when buying tickets which was really simple. We visited specifically for the Red Pandas which were lazying about outside on our arrival. There is an indoor area where it looks like the red pandas can venture into while people are around but that wasn't happening while we were there. Great visit, and an easy trip by bus or taxi. The zoo is an uphill walk if you don't go all the way to the top via vehicle but there is a lovely mountain forest with a temple and lovely little creek that leads up to it. (The mountain is a great visit too!)

#2024wish I was pleasantly surprised by our visit here. The variety of animals is impressive as is the size of the complex. Give yourself a few hours to explore and it’s best to go in the middle of the week as very few people are present. It’s definitely one of the better zoos in Japan and elsewhere. Overall, great! The main attractions were very enjoyable......

I was not really into Zoos but my friends said that since were already in Maruyama, why not go to Maruyama Zoo. So after we visited Hokkaido Shrine, which was just located nearby, we went directly to Maruyama Zoo. There a lot of animals there. It was my first time seeing sheep and a Polar Beer. I was really surprised and happy at the same time. #wintergetaway
