Zhongshan Sanxi Village | A place with a unique style.
📖Historical Origin:
• Sanxi Village is located in the southeastern part of Dongqu Street, Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, nestled in a valley at the northern foot of Wugui Mountain. It was originally called "Triangle Pond Village" due to a triangular pond in the village. Later, due to its flat terrain, a clear stream flowing through it, and mountains surrounding it forming a "three mountains and one stream" pattern, it was renamed "Sanxi Village".
• Its history can be traced back to the mid-Ming Dynasty, with over 600 years of history. It is a typical overseas Chinese village.
💌Architectural Features:
• The village preserves over 180 ancient buildings and residences from the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period. These buildings blend the Lingnan style of China and the West, featuring blue brick structures, Chinese-style gates, and some with sliding doors and pear wood window grilles. The buildings are decorated with carved window walls, colorful gate towers, and gilded reliefs, combining the beauty of architecture, carving, and decoration.
• After renovation and protection, many ancient buildings have been revitalized and used as cafes, private kitchens, craft and cultural stores, design studios, etc., preserving their historical charm while adding a modern artistic atmosphere.
🗂️Cultural Heritage:
• The village has ancient sites such as Liang Clan Ancestral Hall, Hegu Temple, Kangzhenjun Temple, and Xianfeng Temple, which bear witness to the village's prosperity and decline, and are precious historical testimonies. Among them, Liang Clan Ancestral Hall was designated as an "Immovable Cultural Relic" by the Zhongshan Municipal Government in January 2012. It is now transformed into a public cultural space, hosting cultural activities such as the "Qi Jiang Rhyme" thematic poetry lecture and the poetry, calligraphy, and painting joint exhibition.
• It was also a place where revolutionaries were active, carrying red memories and holding certain red cultural value.
👣Touring Experience:
• Strolling through the village feels like traveling through time, allowing you to experience a strong historical atmosphere. Walking along the stone slabs paved in the Qing Dynasty, the alleys are well-organized, with white walls and blue tiles, creating a unique charm.
• There are many unique shops to explore, whether you want to enjoy an exquisite afternoon tea, savor private kitchen dishes, buy creative products, or appreciate artwork, you can find what you need.
• Sanxi Village is also a great place for taking photos. The unique architectural style and artistic atmosphere make it easy to capture stunning shots.
