The Su Shi Exhibition Hall of the Three Su Memorial Hall is located in the Three Su Garden Scenic Area, Sufen Temple Village, Ciba Town, Jia County, Pingdingshan City, Henan Province.
Su Shi (1037-1101), also known as Su Zizhan, Su Hezhong, Tieguan Daoist, and Dongpo Jushi, was commonly known as Su Dongpo, Su Xian, and Po Xian. He was born in Meishan, Meizhou (now Meishan City, Sichuan Province). He was a literary scholar, calligrapher, painter, and famous water conservancy expert of the Northern Song Dynasty. He, his father Su Xun, and his brother Su Zhe were collectively known as the "Three Su".
In the sixth year of Jiayou (1061 AD), he took the imperial examination and was appointed as the judge of Dali and the judge of Fengxiang Prefecture. During the reign of Emperor Shenzong of Song, he served in Hangzhou, Mizhou, Xuzhou, Huzhou, and other places. In the third year of Yuanfeng (1080 AD), due to the "Wutai Poetry Case", he was demoted to the deputy commander of Huangzhou. After Emperor Zhezong of Song ascended the throne, he served as the Minister of the Ministry of War, the Minister of the Ministry of Rites, and other positions, and was sent to govern Hangzhou, Yingzhou, Yangzhou, Dingzhou, and other places. With the New Party in power, he was demoted to Huizhou and Danzhou. During the reign of Emperor Huizong of Song, he was pardoned and returned to the north, and died of illness in Changzhou. During the Southern Song Dynasty, he was posthumously awarded the title of "Taishi" and the posthumous name of "Wenzhong".
Su Shi was the leader of the literary world in the middle of the Northern Song Dynasty and achieved high achievements in poetry, lyrics, prose, calligraphy, and painting. His poems cover a wide range of topics, are fresh and vigorous, good at exaggeration and metaphor, and have a unique style. He and Huang Tingjian were collectively known as "Su Huang". His lyrics are bold and unrestrained. He and Xin Qiji are representatives of the bold and unrestrained school, and are collectively known as "Su Xin". He is one of the "Eight Great Masters of the Tang and Song Dynasties".
