Seafood Shopping at Sankaku Market
I love shopping for food, I love shopping for clothes. But when in Hokkaido, one has to head to Sankaku Market to shop and eat the freshest seafood. The market can be rather cramp but once inside the market, it is a seafood heaven. A wide variety of different local seafood can be spotted. Prices are very reasonable and definitely cheaper than what it is sold in Singapore.
You can find oysters, scallops of various sizes, and a plate of 10 huge oysters were only 1000¥ (about SGD10+), which means per oyster it's only $1! How worth it! You can even buy a box of Uni (creamy sea urchin) for 2300¥ (about SGD24), certainly more affordable than back home. My husband and I cant resist these yummy looking seafood and we also ordered some fresh fish sashimi and we definitely had to try their Alaskan King crab. After shopping and eating all those, it still didn't burn a hole in our wallet. If you're a seafood lover and want something affordable, you got to pop by Sankaku Market.

Otaru Sankaku Market
Today, I visited the legendary Sankaku Market in Otaru. I was so excited! Watching Japanese TV shows introducing those seafood dishes always made my mouth water. As soon as I arrived, I headed straight to the sea urchin section and had a bowl right away. The sea urchin was actually pretty good, and the portion was decent. But after calming down, I realized that the taste isn't too different no matter where you eat it. If you like seafood, it's worth a visit. It's quite nice.

I arrived at Otaru Sankaku Market and was immediately captivated by the bustling atmosphere. The market was filled with stalls offering fresh seafood, and the air was thick with the salty scent of the ocean. After passing by several stalls, I finally found my target—the sea urchin rice.
I ordered a bowl of sea urchin rice, eagerly anticipating the arrival of this delicacy. When the server brought it over, the bowl was filled with fragrant rice, topped with fresh sea urchin. The golden sea urchin glistened enticingly under the sunlight, instantly awakening my appetite.
I carefully scooped a spoonful, and the sweet, fresh taste of the sea urchin burst in my mouth, perfectly complemented by the rich rice. It was a heavenly flavor, with each bite making me feel like I was by the seaside, savoring the fresh bounty of the ocean.
Dining at the market not only satisfied my taste buds but also immersed me in Otaru's rich seafood culture. This sea urchin rice experience undoubtedly became one of my most unforgettable memories in Otaru.

In the small triangular market, the popular seafood store - the taste of the restaurant, the yellow store sign is very eye-catching. The most famous here is the seafood rice bowl. The salmon and fish roe are full of rice and vegetables. It is full of 5 pieces of thick fish and meat. It is better to serve with sake. Suggested a set meal, there are vegetables in the soup, very thoughtful.
