[2025 Salzburg Attraction] Travel Guide for Salzburg Cathedral (Updated Jul)

After visiting 17 countries in Europe, Salzburg is still one of my favorite European cities. I was lucky to visit here in late autumn last year and had good weather, so I took a set of photos that I really like. I personally think that late autumn and after snow are the most beautiful times in this city. These photos were all taken at Blick auf die Salzburger Altstadt, and I should be the first one to post this location on the platform. After posting, some friends left comments on the original post, complaining about how difficult it is to get to this location. Although it is true, I still think this is the best location in Salzburg and worth visiting.

Salzburg Salzburg is divided into the left bank and the right bank by the Salzach River, and there are several bridges connecting the two banks. Couples can walk on the love lock bridge Marko-Feingold-Steg. Those who like Mozart can go to the Mozart Bridge Mozartsteg to take pictures. Standing on the right bank, you can take pictures of the fortress on the mountain. The left bank of the river is the old town area where scenic spots are concentrated. The most lively place in the old town is around Mozart’s birthplace. On the one hand, Mozart’s birthplace is one of the must-see attractions for tourists. On the other hand, the main attractions of the old town are also concentrated nearby. Salzburg Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace are on the King's Square next to it, while the Mozart Monument and St. Peter's Cathedral are not far from the King's Square. Therefore, you should plan your route carefully when visiting the old town of Salzburg to save your legs. 🚩Classic check-in route: 🔻Mozart's birthplace Mozarts Geburtshaus Mozart was born in 1756 on the third floor of this small building, in the bedroom where a violin is now stored. It is located on the Palace Square, next to the Salzburg Cathedral. The interior of the palace is very luxurious, no less than the imperial palace. It is recommended to start the visit here. Following the Chinese guide, you can not only gain an in-depth understanding of the purpose of the rooms in the palace, but also visit the organ and band performance venue on the second floor of Salzburg Cathedral. This way you can have a preliminary understanding of the Salzburg Cathedral. After visiting the church museum on the right side of the second floor of the cathedral, you will know what to focus on in the cathedral. 🔻Salzburg Cathedral Dom zu Salzburg There is an organ that Mozart played here, located on your right hand side facing the main altar. 🔻St. Peter's Cathedral/Erzabtei Sankt Peter Mozart's sister Maria Anna Mozart and her husband are buried here, so there are their tombstones, located in the corridor on the south side of the cemetery, with a wooden bench at the door. This is also the ticket office for going up the mountain to see the mausoleum. The iron gate will only be opened during the ticket sales period, and you can go in and take a closer look at the pink tombstone and their small portraits. 🔻FestungsBahn cable car to the Salzburg Fortress You can watch the sunset and take the cable car to the Salzburg Fortress on the top of the mountain. You can enjoy the beautiful sunset while having dinner. Be careful not to miss the last cable car. 📌If you hike up the mountain, you can visit Stift Nonnberg, where medieval murals are preserved.

Salzburg Cathedral will celebrate its 1250th anniversary this year in 2024. Salzburg is the city where Mozart was born, and he was baptized in Salzburg Cathedral. The baptismal font still remains. (Photos 2-3) The lions supporting the font were made around the 12th century, and reminded me of the lions in the Alhambra Palace in Spain. The ceiling paintings are also wonderful, so they are worth seeing! Going up the stairs to the basement, you will find the tomb and the sarcophagus of Archbishop Colloredo. The interior is so magnificent that it is a place that makes you feel indescribable emotions. If you go at the right time, you can hear various performances. We stepped into Salzburg Cathedral just as the midday summer’s heat softened outside, the cool air inside wrapping around us like a hush 🕊️☀️. Light filtered through tall windows, catching on the white stone and gilded details, and everything felt spacious not just in size, but in spirit. We wandered slowly, heads tilted back, drawn to the soaring ceiling and the quiet beauty in every corner. No one rushed. I went on a trip to Germany over the New Year holidays, so I'd like to introduce my plan for this trip. Day 1: 7:00 AM Arrived at Munich Airport ✈️ I heard that the Christmas market at the airport opens from 11:00, so I decided to kill time until then. There were sales at the supermarket and pharmacy at the airport, so I bought some souvenirs there! 11:00-12:00 Christmas Market It was small, so I was able to finish looking around in an hour😊 From 1:00 PM, I took a train towards the city and visited the Munich Residenz, Alte Pinakothek, and Marienplatz. (It took quite a while to see the Residenz, and the Pinakothek closed just in time💦) From 6:00 PM, took a break at Cafe Luitpold → returned to the hotel Day 2: 7:00 AM-6:00 PM I took an optional tour with a Japanese guide to visit Neuschwanstein Castle, Linderhof Castle, and Wieskirche! This time I was traveling alone, but there were a few other people with me, so we became friends and went around together💕 It's difficult to get to these three places on your own because of the poor transportation, so I recommend using a tour!! ! [Day 3] 7:00-9:00 Travel by train to Salzburg 9:00-Arrive in Salzburg Walk through Mirabell Gardens and from Salzburg Central Station towards Mozart's house. Breakfast at Cafe Bazaar. 10:00 Shopping in the old town🛍️ (All the shops were closed around 6:00pm, so I'm glad I bought some at this time!) 11:00-13:00 Visit Mozart's house and birthplace. 13:00-Lunch at Cafe Tomaselli. (The oldest cafe in Salzburg, founded in the 1700s and frequented by Mozart) 14:00 Shopping at the Christmas market 🛍️ The Christmas market was open here until January 🎄 There were lots of miscellaneous goods and accessories for sale, so it was worth seeing! 15:00~ Visited Hohensalzburg Fortress. 17:00~ Visited Salzburg Cathedral. The worship service had just started, so I listened to it for a bit. 18:00~ Stopped by the Christmas market one last time, bought some mulled wine and bread to eat ✨ Go straight to Munich. [Day 4] My flight was at 12 o'clock, so I went straight to the airport in the morning and bought the souvenirs I had left over while I was waiting! #2025 Overseas Travel Event I stopped by Salzburg Cathedral late in the evening around Christmas. I've been to many cathedrals at the end of the year, but this was the first time I felt like praying like this.
