[Hokkaido] Chitose Aquarium, the hometown of salmon
\\Tourist Spots//
This is one of the largest freshwater fish museums in Japan, located next to the roadside station Salmon Park Chitose. The unusual design of the building allows you to see freshwater fish in their natural state. There are also plenty of experiences, such as backyard tours and feeding experiences.
The Indian waterwheel at the entrance is a machine used to capture and grind salmon that have migrated upstream, but since we visited in October when the salmon were migrating upstream, the Indian waterwheel was actually being used in the Chitose River behind the building.
This is a rare experience, so if you can come at the right time, be sure to visit.
