[Kochi] Daruma sunrise and sunset at Cape Muroto
Cape Muroto is a rare spot where you can see the sunrise to the east and the sunset to the west from its topography jutting out into the Pacific Ocean☀️
The sunrise and sunset seen from here are called "Daruma sunrise" and "Daruma sunset", respectively, and are characterized by the sun looking like a daruma!
On the day I went to see it, there were clouds near the horizon so I couldn't see it, but I'd like to go back👍

It is a spot where you can enjoy the spectacular natural scenery as if you were on a remote island✨
There are many large rugged rocks, and if you climb on top of them, you can take beautiful photos😊
Also, there is a large statue of Shintaro Nakaoka at the tip of Cape Muroto, so we recommend visiting it as well.

🇯🇵 [Kochi Prefecture] Muroto Abandoned Aquarium! 🦭🐢 Fun! Interesting!
🇯🇵 [Kochi Prefecture] Muroto Abandoned School Aquarium! 🦭🐢Fun! Interesting!
As the name suggests, this aquarium was renovated from the abandoned Shiina Elementary School (^^)
While retaining the atmosphere of the elementary school with chairs, desks, and world maps, it is an aquarium that breeds and displays over 1,000 fish of 50 different species. Hammerhead sharks and sea turtles swim in the 25m outdoor pool and aquariums installed inside the school building, and you can also see fish such as horse mackerel, mackerel, and yellowtail caught by local fishermen (^^)
In the science lab, a huge specimen of a minke whale caught locally is on display (^^)

[Places associated with Kobo Daishi (Kukai)]
📍Mikunito Cave and Shinmei Cave, Kochi Prefecture
There are many places related to Kobo Daishi (Kukai) in Muroto City. One of them is the "Mikunito Cave," which is said to have been used as a residence during his training.
It is said that the young Kobo Daishi attained enlightenment in this cave about 1,200 years ago during the Heian period, and inside is a shrine called Gosho Shrine.
It is said that the name "Kukai" was given to it because he was impressed by the sky and sea that can be seen from here.
Next to this is the "Shinmei Cave," which is said to have been used mainly as a place of training.
In addition, the "sound of waves at Mikunito Cave" has been selected as one of the "100 Soundscapes of Japan" by the Environment Agency.

[Propose at Cape Muroto, a sacred place for lovers?]
📍 Cape Muroto, Kochi Prefecture
Cape Muroto, which has been certified as a Global Geopark, is surprisingly famous as a date spot, and many couples visit as tourists. The observation deck has many photo spots, including a heart-shaped monument, a beautiful chalk lighthouse, and lush subtropical plants.
In addition, the topography of the area jutting out into the Pacific Ocean makes it one of the best places in Japan to see both the sunrise and sunset.
The cape jutting out into the Pacific Ocean is the southeastern tip of Shikoku, and faces Cape Ashizuri. The reefs jutting out into the Pacific Ocean and the subtropical forests covering the cape are magnificent.
There is a 2km-long reef promenade on the coast, so be sure to take a walk.
It was also certified as a Global Geopark in September 2011.

[Kochi Prefecture] The National Muroto Youth Nature House, a house of wall art deep in the mountains of Muroto
The National Muroto Youth Nature House is located deep in the mountains on the west side of the Muroto Peninsula in Kochi Prefecture.
As the name suggests, it is originally a forest school facility for boys and girls, but
in 2019, a major project was implemented to invite students from Tokyo University of the Arts to create wall art on the walls of the facility in order to give young people more opportunities to come into contact with art.
The art of the students, inspired by Muroto's nature and the facility, is truly unique.
The works include cool, ink-wash-like drawings of Kobo Daishi/Kukai, who has ties to the Muroto Peninsula, dynamic giant daruma dolls, ink-wash-style dragons, and anime-style pop art.
Of course, admission is free.
The site is large, and there is no particular map to show where the paintings are, so you can enjoy it like a treasure hunt.
The event has been held twice in the past, and there is a possibility that it will be expanded in the future.
There was a B-class spectacular spot in an unexpected place.

📍Muroto Abandoned Aquarium
An aquarium that has been reborn in a closed elementary school in a unique way.
The ordinary classrooms, science lab, and swimming pool are used as aquariums😳
The water in the pool where the sharks and turtles live was so dirty that you could barely see anything🤣🤣
But the turtles being scrubbed in the drained pool were very cute🐢❤️
It's a hot topic, and it's a great idea to make effective use of a school building that is no longer in use💡

Muroto Global Geopark Center
There were staff immediately available to help us. One staff member even took the time to give us a brief guided tour. Muroto exists at a spot that might very well experience a catastrophic change within the next 30 years. The way the people of this area cope with that, and have developed through their history, is really amazing. Very informative in geology and local culture. I arrived a bit late and so most restaurants were not serving lunch, but staff of tourist information helped me to call around nearby restaurants and I managed to fill my belly well. Thank you!
SeaRest Muroto
Wonderful experience at this spa. The pool with various pressure jets were the main highlight, although the outdoor jacuzzi was also delicious in the somewhat chilly and drizzly January day. Staff was cordial and helpful. A great activity to do when you're in the area. The main attraction is the deep sea water pool. There are many stations for water jet massage with a view on the sea. The sauna is included in the pool access fee. Hot bath is available too. Can be accessed with a separate fee.
Muroto Skyline Observation Deck
Cape Muroto To the left of the Shintaro Nakaoka statue, there is a path that leads up to the observation deck. The atmosphere is a tunnel of ivy and leaves, like the hidden path where ' My Neighbor Totoro" lives. You can enjoy a panoramic view of the Sea of Japan with no obstacles or man-made objects.
There is a vague information board on the observatory that says '"Lover's Sanctuary," but it is a sacred place for both late Edo period fans and fans of spectacular views.
[Kochi] An aquarium in a school?!
📍Muroto Abandoned School Aquarium
This is the first time I've ever been to an aquarium like this!
It's very innovative, with things related to the school in the tanks, while still retaining the atmosphere of the school!
There are even sharks and turtles!
A reasonably priced aquarium that both adults and children can enjoy!

The Ryugu Shrine 竜宮神社
#japantrip There was a parking lot near the entrance to the promenade, so I parked there and stopped by.You can enjoy a very nice view, so please stop by. When you walk along the long approach to the beach and reach the coast, the scenery changes completely and you will be overwhelmed by the majestic scenery. A dragon swooped down and stuck to the stone of the tori gate, and you could feel the power! If you visit this year of the Dragon and touch the body of a dragon, your wish will come true!!

Kongochoji Temple is located in Muroto, Japan, and belongs to the Buzan school of Shingon Buddhism. The temple enshrines Yakushi Nyorai as its principal image and is the center of faith. Its beautiful architecture and historical value attract many people. Located at 523 Motootsu, Muroto, the surrounding area is rich in natural scenery and tranquility. The temple is known as a place that provides spiritual peace for worshippers and devotees.
It is said that the treasure house here has many treasures!
The island is still attractive
I traveled to all the prefectures in Shikoku
Kochi
It's so big, and it took a whole day to go from the center of Kochi to Cape Muroto and back by rental car, making detours along the way
Ehime
Dogo Onsen and the surrounding area are nice, but Yawatahama was impressive
The shop where salt bread originated and the hot springs at Moor Izumi were great
Tokushima
I went all the way to Naruto, but I felt like I missed out because I couldn't see the whirlpool (apparently there are few days when you can see the whirlpool)
Kagawa
What can I say, udon?
I went to many places because I wanted to eat various kinds of udon
But what impressed me in Shikoku were the islands
Especially
Shodoshima and Naoshima
Just going there by boat makes me feel excited, like I'm going abroad
I rented a scooter to tour around the island in both places
I was impressed by the fresh somen noodles I ate for the first time in Shodoshima
I looked around the art works on the island in Naoshima
I want to visit again and enjoy it

Spectacular temples
The best temple accommodation I have ever stayed in. I stayed at this temple for one night and I was able to relax in the spacious room. The scenery here is very comfortable. Excellent food, probably some of the best I've had in Japan. The food was plentiful and all homemade and delicious. The temple grounds themselves are spectacular. In general, the best value for money.

An aquarium located near Murotomisaki that makes use of an abandoned school!
There are traces of the school here and there
There are areas where the original facilities have been renovated to house aquariums, and there are exhibits that you won't notice unless you look closely
The best exhibit is the sea turtle exhibit!
You can observe sea turtles up close and feed them 🐢
Depending on the location, there are areas where you can feed fish and interact with them, so it's a great place to bring children ✨✨

[Misaki Kanko Hotel] ☆The best hotel I've ever stayed at☆
Hotel name: Misaki Kanko Hotel
Location: 4037 Muroto Misaki-cho, Muroto City, Kochi Prefecture, 781-7101
Check-in and check-out times: 3pm and 10am
Reviews:
I felt this was the best hotel I've ever stayed at
The hotel is located at the tip of Muroto Misaki, down a slope.
The exterior of the hotel has a tasteful look that seems to come out of a Ghibli movie.
The interior is also very old, so there are some broken parts here and there, but you can feel the history. (The roof of the main building was blown off a few years ago.)
The ladies also have a cypress bath! Depending on the time of day, you can have it all to yourself.
Dinner is served in just the right amount, with seafood as the main dish.
If you can drink alcohol, be sure to try the sake recommended by the Tosa sake advisor! They will actually bring over a dozen types, and you will be provided with a sake that suits your taste.
All the food was delicious, but the most impressive was the vinegared yam stems called Ryukyu, which were easy to eat with the sourness of yuzu and went perfectly with alcohol.
From the room, you can see the Pacific Ocean and the beautiful sunrise.
The breakfast was delicious, with homemade dried fish as the main dish.
The service and interior were all great, so this is a hotel I'd like to stay at once a year.

[Liquor store] A huge collection of Tosa local sake, no wonder!
[Store name] Nomachi Sake Shop (Tosa Umai Ichiba)
[Location] 2470 Murozu, Muroto City, Kochi Prefecture, 781-7102
[Business hours] Tuesday, Thursday-Sunday: 10:00-20:00 *Wednesdays closed
[Review]
I visited around opening time.
All the sake is stored in a refrigerator, and they have a wide variety of alcohol, from sake to shochu.
If you tell them your preferences for alcohol, they will suggest a drink that suits your taste. The conversation itself was very educational, and before I knew it, about an hour had passed! (lol)
Everything is in an affordable price range, so I would definitely like to visit again when I come to Muroto!
