This temple was one of the most peaceful places I have ever witnessed in my entire life. It had less tourists that other temples we visited because it was a further walk from the mainstream area. But it was entirely worth it. The quiet chirping of the wooden planks around the buildings as people walk and admire the zen garden is a sound that I’ll always associate with peace. I'd heard about this garden but never thought I'd get the chance to see it. It didn't disappoint. You could sit a stare at if for hours. It is just such a peaceful space to be in. The colours change constantly. The rest of the garden wrapped round the temple is very beautiful and so well maintained. The lily lake is sublime. Visit and enjoy.

Autumn in Japan🗻🍂
Autumn in Japan is a season of breathtaking beauty, with the country’s landscapes transforming into a vibrant tapestry of reds, oranges, and yellows. From the highlands to the coast, the fall foliage draws both locals and tourists, eager to experience the magical scenery. The season typically peaks between October and November, offering some of the best opportunities to witness nature’s colors in full glory.
In cities like Kyoto, Tokyo, and Nara, autumn brings cooler temperatures and clear skies, perfect for strolling through historic gardens and temples. The Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Ryoan-ji in Kyoto are especially stunning with their surrounding maple trees turning brilliant shades of red, while Tokyo’s Shinjuku Gyoen and Ueno Park provide tranquil settings to enjoy the seasonal beauty.
Beyond the urban centers, Japan’s national parks, like Nikko and Hakone, offer spectacular hiking opportunities through forests that seem to be on fire with fall colors. The Japanese Alps are also a popular destination, where visitors can enjoy views of snow-capped mountains juxtaposed with autumn foliage.
Autumn in Japan also brings with it seasonal treats like kaki (persimmons), matsutake mushrooms, and sweet potato dishes, adding to the overall sensory experience. Whether exploring gardens, hiking mountains, or savoring seasonal food, autumn in Japan is a time of reflection, beauty, and cultural celebration.

This Place, Rocks!
#Ryoanji #ZenTemple #kyoto
One of my favourite temples in Kyoto - it’s the only one I’ve been to every time I’ve set food in the city - and rightly so; whether it’s when the sakura trees are in full bloom, or when it ignites in autumn gold, Ryoanji is a space for calm contemplation and absolute relaxation. The 15 rocks that make up its masterful Zen garden are like planets in their own philosophical orbit - that is, they’re there for you to make of them as you wish. The surrounding gardens and lotus-filled lake are similarly breathtaking, so take a long, deep, cleansing breath, free your mind and just be for a moment or three. Hope you enjoy the experience!

One Of The Most Famous Rock Gardens in Japan 🪨
#goingplaces
The Zen rock garden at Ryoan-ji Temple in Kyoto is one of the most iconic examples of kare-sansui (dry landscape) gardens in Japan. The garden consists of 15 stones arranged in a sea of meticulously raked gravel, meant to symbolize mountains, water, and other natural elements. The layout is designed to evoke contemplation, and the arrangement of the stones is meant to inspire the viewer’s imagination—yet paradoxically, no matter where you sit, one stone remains hidden, symbolizing the imperfection or the unknown.

The hotel was designed by Kerry Hill, who beautifully combines the simplicity of traditional Japanese architecture with modern architectural elements to create an elegant and comfortable environment. The hotel's pavilions are scattered throughout the forest and connected by a moss-covered cobblestone path, allowing guests to fully experience the changing seasons and the beauty of nature as they explore
There are 24 suites in total, divided into four types: firefly, maple, oak, and reed, distributed in four pavilions, facing different views. The rooms are designed in a simple Japanese style, but with all the necessary elements. While modern elements coexist, all rooms are designed with tatami mats. Between the room and the bed, a traditional Japanese "Hinoki bath" is installed, exuding the fragrance of high-quality wood

The ultimate Zen essence of karesansui is embodied in Kyoto's Ryoanji Temple
Japanese architecture is deeply influenced by Zen Buddhism, especially evident in the art of garden design. Japanese gardens are often Zen-style, skillfully utilizing sand, stones, and moss to create karesansui landscapes. It can be said that the 'karesansui' garden landscaping art of Japanese gardens is an excellent representation of the Zen spirit.
Ryoanji Temple is a temple of the Myoshinji school of the Rinzai sect, located in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. Founded in 1450, it is famous for its karesansui abbot's garden and has been designated as a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO.
The stone garden of Ryoanji is a rectangular courtyard enclosed by low earthen walls, with a layer of fine white sand and gravel on the ground, combed with very neat ripples, and apart from a few stones, there is nothing else. — 'This is the best place to re-examine oneself.'

Steve Jobs' favorite temple in Kyoto, hides the most Zen dry landscape in Japan
Ryoanji Hojo Garden is one of the most famous gardens in Kyoto. Compared with other temples in Kyoto that are famous domestically, Ryoanji is not very famous, but it is synonymous with Japanese gardens in the world. Not only is it a world heritage site, but it also has the most famous dry landscape in Japan. In history, Toyotomi Hideyoshi also held a flower viewing banquet in Ryoanji, and it is one of Steve Jobs' favorite places in Kyoto.
The dry landscape garden of Ryoanji is said to have been built in the late Muromachi period (around 1500) by the highly respected Zen master Tofu Zenjie. The 15 rocks in the garden are cleverly placed so that visitors cannot see one of the rocks no matter where they stand, and can only see 14 rocks. It seems to be placed at will, but the combination of stones is carefully designed and laid out, and is regarded as a representative of the golden ratio in aesthetics. It seems that only through Zen meditation can you gain enough spiritual inspiration to see through the complexity and vanity and see the complete 15 stones from the heart. For this reason, it adds more mystery to the Ryoanji Hojo Garden.

My favorite part of the area is absolutely the Water Lily Pond. Countless Water Lilies cover the whole pond, it was such a sight. Probably, it would've been prettier if the Lilies are in bloom. Ryoanji is a Zen temple located in the northwest of Kyoto. It's a very soothing and quite place, plus, the fee is cheap; ¥500.

Longan Temple, Japan, tickets are 500 baht. Yes, it is more expensive than the Golden Pavilion. There are really few people here, and, beautiful! Five stars in the word maple . The Longan Temple is an ancient temple built by the Muromachi era, the Tokugawa Warrior's Eastern Army General Hosokawa Seiyo in the second year of the year (AD 1450). The most famous here is the abbot garden, which is paved with white sand in the east-west rectangular garden. It is equipped with 15 stones of different sizes and is a famous dry garden. Longan Temple is bigger than the Golden Pavilion Temple. This maple tree on the edge of the pool is the most beautiful I have seen in Kyoto these days. The maple leaf of Long'an Temple is really beautiful and can't bear to leave.
