Welcome to Royal Museums Greenwich! It is home to five major museums and landmark buildings: the Royal Observatory and Peter Harrison Planetarium, Cutty Sark, the National Maritime Museum and the Queen's House Museum. As one of the most attractive tourist landmarks in the UK, Royal Museums Greenwich is the perfect destination for you to visit, no matter what your interests are - art and architecture, astronomy, ships and sailing, or British history and royal past. Our four landmark buildings are all located in the historic Greenwich area, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most attractive areas in London. All the must-see attractions are close to each other and can be reached on foot, which is very convenient and effortless. The Royal Observatory Greenwich is the birthplace of the famous Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and the location of the Prime Meridian (zero degrees longitude), which is the starting point for calculating geographical longitude and world time zones determined by the international scientific community. This museum, which contains the mysteries of time and astronomy, was designed and built by Sir Christopher Wren, president of the Royal Society, astronomer and famous architect. It was originally built to find longitude at sea. In 1884, the international community unanimously agreed to set Greenwich as the location of the prime meridian. Now, you can cross this meridian! One of your feet is in the Eastern Hemisphere and the other is in the Western Hemisphere. You can also visit the first building built here, Flamsteed House, and learn how the Royal Astronomers lived and worked here. You can also go to the Astronomy Center to experience the work of astronomers firsthand, and you can touch and feel the meteorites that fell from the sky 4.5 billion years ago.The view here covers Greenwich Royal Park, London City and the Thames River, and you can take in the pleasant scenery of the whole London at a glance. It is also a very ornamental photography location, with London's ever-changing city skyline as the background, you can take perfect group photos. Peter Harrison Planetarium(Peter Harrison Planetarium) While exploring the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, you can also visit the Peter Harrison Planetarium, the only planetarium in London. Various performances are held here every day, bringing you a wonderful and dreamy experience like a movie scene. For children, exploring the mysteries and wonders of the night sky will be the best choice, and for adults, dramatic performances can make this science tour more rich and interesting. (Exhibitions and performances are subject to additional fees) The Octagonal Room has tall glass windows, making it a perfect place to observe the night sky. It is also the center of the home of Flannmusted, the first director of the Royal Observatory. Designed by the famous Sir Christopher Wren, the Octagonal Room has the best preserved Wren-style interior decoration in London.
