However, this iconic Singapore dish has humble beginnings as a favourite dish of the Lim family who lived in a seaside kampong near Upper East Coast.

Amazing breakfast spot, tried and tested many. I came for breakfast and had avo toast with halloumi and an almond flat white. A friend of ours is coeliac and explained my allergies to the waitresses who were amazing at understanding our requirements and communicating them to other staff members, I felt extremely safe eating here which is such a good feeling. The gluten free bread was some of the best I’ve had! Service was flawless everyone was so helpful and kind and it came out very quickly. It’s a little expensive but you get what you pay for. The interior decoration of the restaurant is antique and the noble style of early big restaurants can be seen everywhere. The old-fashioned wood carvings on the wall, the tiled collages on the floor, and the paper-cut windows on the ceiling all highlight the historical origins of this restaurant. After we were seated under the guidance of the waiter, a large basket of fragrant boiled chicken was placed in front of us. The meat was tender and juicy, and it was a perfect match with the special Hainan curry sauce. Next to it is a big pot of fragrant chicken soup, with countless golden and crispy fried dough sticks floating on the soup, making people salivate. As we picked up the chicken and devoured it, another dish was served: a colorful and varied platter of fresh seafood. There are plump and chewy white shrimps, crystal clear mussels, and brightly colored shark fins, all of which will make you salivate. We wandered in this seafood chicken rice feast with a strong Singaporean flavor, chewing it heartily, feeling the simple and original charm of the simple ingredients, and finding the original yearning for food. Being in this elegant and noble dining environment, we also gain an unprecedented immersive experience in our hearts, and have a new understanding and enlightenment of the simple beauty of life.
