[Hokkaido Abashiri] Abashiri Nature Cruise ~ Crossing the Warm and Cold Boundary of the Sea of Okhoku • Close Contact with Whales and Dolphins
The captain of this whale watching boat is a fisherman. In addition to having rich experience at sea, he is also a professional tour guide. The whale watching boat runs from April to October, with two departures a day at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., and the sea time is about two and a half hours. Although on-site registration is accepted if there are vacancies on the day, this itinerary is very popular, so it is better to register early!
The whale watching boat has two floors. In addition to the broad view, the deck area on the second floor can also clearly track the figures of whales and dolphins. While listening to the captain's explanation, the boat had unknowingly arrived at the whale watching location. The location is in the Nemuro Strait between the Shiretoko Peninsula and Kunashir Island in the Northern Territory.
I thought the boat would be very rocky, but unexpectedly it was calm and comfortable. But the temperature changes are very big. When I was on land, I felt the weather was very good and warm. After getting on the ship, I felt very cold because I was on the deck for a long time blowing in the sea breeze. Although you can rent raincoats on the boat, you still need to bring gloves and a woolen hat in spring and autumn, and don't forget to bring an extra coat to keep warm in summer.
Note: Please come 10 minutes before the boat departs. Board the boat at the pier behind the meeting point [Michi-no-Eki].
