Although Yunnan is at the average altitude of more than 3000 metres, we went to visit a sea there. Ever wondered how is that 😛? Haha, it is again a contextual naming of water source. Napa is just a lake, but since it is of size more than a normal lake; it is referred as sea by the local people. And especially during this holiday season, you can actually see a lot of people coming here for wedding shoot. But out purpose in here is to stop by, and ride some horses 🐎. If you're going to Shangri-La, you must visit. 🔆 Napa Lake is not a lake, but a grassland and lake, a seasonal marsh wetland. I recommend going around the lake, it's really beautiful!! ⚠️ Note: Napa Lake is free to visit! You can visit the whole lake, don't navigate to Napa Lake, that's a horse farm with forced consumption; also don't take the carriage at the entrance of Songzanlin Monastery, it also goes to the horse farm. 🚗 Transportation: ①🚌 Bus: Take bus 12, fare is 2 per person. Bus 12 has A and B lines, I recommend taking line A from Hongtaiyang Square to Napa Lake Village White Tower, and take line B back to the ancient city, this way you can go around the lake. Note: There are no buses from 12:00 to 14:00. ②🛵 Rent an electric scooter: Costs about 60-80 per day, I recommend choosing one with a large battery, as going around the lake is 60-70 km; bring a jacket to keep warm, it's windy by the lake. The road around the lake is quite flat, with no sharp turns, and is very wide, allowing you to ride and take photos at the same time. Napa Lake Road has a water crossing section between Gaoshan Villa and Gongbin Racecourse, known as the 'water highway' of Shangri-La. During the rainy season, the lake water may spread over the road, reflecting the blue sky and white clouds. The water appears like the sky. The lake changes with the seasons, featuring grasslands, water, and snow depending on the time of year. I had such a great time visiting Lake Napahai in Shangri-La! It's about an hour's bike ride from the town, and the journey there is just as beautiful as the lake itself. When I got to the lake, it wasn’t as full of water as I expected—it looked more like a vast meadow instead. Even though it was dry, the place still had a calm and special vibe. This is the place to go if you want to encounter yaks and their babies. The local Tibetan communities use the grassland to feed their cattle, and they let you approach it. Yaks and horses are grazing around. If you're lucky, you might encounter a baby feeding at its mother. It's a good place to come and take pictures of yourself dressed into the local clothes. You can also ride a horse to enjoy the scenery and atmosphere. If you want to visit, you can rent an electric scooter (make sure it has enough battery) or a bike and go around. Summer is the most enchanting time at Napa Lake. Looking out, the grassland resembles a green ocean, and when the wind blows, the waves of grass roll, making you feel ecstatic. The flowers are not to be outdone, blooming in a riot of colors, competing with the green grass for attention. Especially when the sun sets, the whole world is dyed golden, and the beauty is simply breathtaking. Don't think that there are only beautiful sceneries here; the animals are equally impressive. Herds of cattle and sheep leisurely graze and stroll on the grassland, and seeing their carefree demeanor makes one envious. There are also wild ducks and black-necked cranes playing by the water of Napa Lake, creating a lively scene. Every time I see such a scene, I can't help but wonder, how can there be such a paradise-like place on Earth? But then I think, maybe it is precisely because of its remoteness and inaccessibility that these beauties have been preserved. This is my fourth time in Shangri-La. Still full of surprises, still very much in love. Take half a day to a day to take an autumn tour of Napahai Lake. You can charter a car or drive yourself. 🚗Recommend chartering a car, the driver will be more familiar (we, must go to the viewing platform on the mountain, overlooking Shangri-La Napahai, the photos are very beautiful. ✅There is also a niche check-in point, Love Song Valley, the autumn colors are very rich. Lake Napa Wetlands, or Lake Napa Nature Reserve must be included in the TO-DO list of places to visit during your trip to Shangri-La. As this landmark is far from the nearest city down town, you need to arrange private transportation to get there. In my case I came with a tour so we were transported in comfortable buses everywhere. Once you arrive to this place you might want to spend an hour or so to appreciate the landscape, walk closer to the lake and take some wonderful pictures. This lake is lying in the valley of a high mountain plateau situated about 3270 m above sea level and covering 660 sq km. Don’t be surprise to see animals in the river such as horses, cows, buffaloes but don’t get too close to them.
