[2024 Riga Stay] Travel Guide for Riga (Updated Dec)
Nature and Art Nouveau
Relatively unheard of when speaking of European capitals. Riga has the potential to allow an engaging holiday. During my time here it gave me the regular fill of history, museums and local attractions. From retrospect and knowing friends who visited in other times. I felt my trip was unknowingly well timed. This was late during the year, two weeks before Christmas.
Even for a small city it looked lively and cosy at the same time. The nouveau architecture also comes as a refreshing change. It's got some of the biggest markets I saw in this part of the world. Although I was told it tends to be bigger and lovelier during the summers. The museums, most notably the museum of occupation was very worth the time.
From my hostel I managed to join a free walking tour. Such a thing or even socialising with locals and getting information via them opens up the city to you in a different sort of a way. The central market with its offerings was a nice peak into the local lives. There are boat tours to be had as well. You'll also find several historic points of interest and also the modern part of the city to enjoy the comforts you seek from urban holidays.

Riga- Charming city
My trip to Riga was fantastic, with several memorable highlights.
The iconic "RIGA" sign (pic 1) by the sqaure was a great photo spot, perfectly capturing the city's vibrant energy.
The majestic St. Peter's Church, with its towering spire, offers a viewing deck (5-6) that provide panoramic views of Riga’s beautiful skyline. The Latvia National Library impressed me with its modern architecture and vast collection of books (pic 7).
Inside the Old Town,
I went for a lunch, I tried Russian-style vodka at a local bar, experiencing its unique, smooth flavor that perfectly complemented the lively Latvian hospitality.
Riga is a city of contrasts, where history and modernity blend seamlessly, making it a truly unforgettable destination.

Riga, An Ancient City by the Baltic Sea
The city of Riga, which is the capital of Latvia, was founded in 1201 and grew a lot until the 15th century. It is located at the mouth of the Daugava River into the Baltic Sea and is home to half of Latvia's population.
I traveled from Vilnius to Riga by "lux express" bus. The trip took four hours and it was the best bus I took in Europe. You can drink unlimited tea and coffee on this bus and the ticket was about 17 in June 2023.
Best places to visit:
The Guild House of the Brotherhood of Blackheads, St. Peter's Church, the Freedom Monument and the Central Market.
