[2025 Sousse Medina Attraction] Travel Guide for Ribat of Sousse (Updated Jun)

It's not that I can't afford Greece, but 🇹🇳 is more cost-effective. Tunisia, an unexpected surprise on this trip, is more romantic than I imagined and more surprising than I expected. During the five days in 🇹🇳, I had a very pleasant time every day. Here is my travel guide, with an average cost of CNY 1,500 per person! ✍️About visa: Visa-free, I flew directly from Morocco. The customs will check your return ticket and hotel reservation when you enter the country, so prepare in advance. 📍About itinerary: Tunis City Center · Tunisia 1️⃣Sidi Bou Said 2️⃣Medina of Tunis (Old Town) 3️⃣Carthage Ruins (There are several attractions together, you can walk to check in, or you can choose to charter a car) Sousse Port 1️⃣El Jem - one of the three largest coliseums in the world, and also the filming location of Mayday's "Born to Love" 2️⃣Medina of Sousse - recommended to stay here 3️⃣Sousse Port 4️⃣Sousse Museum 🚄About transportation: There are buses in Tunis City to various attractions, which is quite convenient. Taxis are also not expensive, about 8-10 dinars for 5 km💰 To other cities, you can choose train, bus, or mini bus. I took a mini bus to Sousse, which took about 1.5h-2h, and took a train back. ☎️About SIM card and currency exchange: You can get a free SIM card at the airport with your passport at Orange, and recharge 20 dinars for 10g, which is definitely enough if you don't watch dramas~ Some people say that it is best to keep the receipt for currency exchange, so that you can exchange for other currencies when you leave, and Tunisian money cannot leave the country, which will be checked. But I was not checked, and I just spent it all. 💰About expenses: Cash withdrawal: CNY 500 Accommodation: CNY 539 (5 days, 3 days in a youth hostel, 2 days in a single room) Credit card: CNY 577 🍕About food: Tunisian pizza is delicious! Better than Morocco and Egypt, and cheap. Coffee is also cheap, sitting on the street and ordering a latte for 1.5 dinars, comfortable~ Tagine is N times better than Morocco~ 💕About feelings: Safe, it feels much safer than Morocco, and Tunisia is a country of morning people, everyone closes and rests at around 9 pm. Most stores are open at around 6 am. Romantic, Sidi Bou Said is more romantic than Chefchaouen in Morocco, perhaps because it is close to the Mediterranean Sea. El Jem, I was shocked by it, when I was at the entrance of the attraction, I felt like I was traveling through time and space. Sousse is the slowest city I have ever stayed in, and Tunis City is already very slow. It can be said to be a "sloth" city version. Tunisia is so beautiful, the Mediterranean sunshine, the Mediterranean sea breeze, it seems to be blowing here all the time, making people feel very happy.

Its position overlooking the sea offers a beautiful view of the city of Sousse and the Mediterranean Sea from the top of its tower! The architecture is characteristic of Arab-Islamic architecture, and there is a large courtyard inside the Ribat. Some scenes from the movie "Lawrence of Arabia" were filmed here. North Africa Morocco Tunisia Tour (25) World Heritage Site - Sousse Medina Sousse - Hammamet December 27, 2024 Weather: Sunny to cloudy, with occasional light rain turning to overcast, 11-16°C. In the afternoon, we passed through the ninth stop, Sousse, and visited the Medina here. The word "Medina" means "town" or "city" in modern Arabic and is often used to refer to the old city. The old city of Sousse is famous for its ancient castle (Figure 1) and the Great Mosque (Figure 2), which have been listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The castle was built in 821 AD and was historically used as a lighthouse and a beacon tower, and was an important part of the coastal defense system. In the old city, the same dense houses, narrow streets, and numerous shops, daily food, and handicrafts (Figure 3) are all available and dazzling, full of fireworks (Figure 4). Not only tourists will come, but also local people from the surrounding area will often come to shop and treasure hunt, which is a living reflection of the social norm. In a renovated old building, we found this "heart-shaped" spiral staircase (Figure 5). In the evening, we arrived at the tenth stop, Hammamet, the third largest city in Tunisia and a tourist city, and stayed at a resort hotel by the Mediterranean Sea (Figure 6). The hotel is located in a coastal tourist area, and the surrounding area is almost entirely occupied by various hotels. The hotel has a large area, with several outdoor swimming pools, and a garden style (Figure 7). Across the street is the Mediterranean Sea, and the marina is full of yachts (Figure 8), with an antique pirate ship moored at the dock (Figure 9). The sky was overcast and the light was dim, so if the weather is good tomorrow morning, we will come out and have a look.

In 1988, UNESCO listed the old city of Sousse as a cultural heritage site, included in the 'World Heritage List'. Perhaps because I have visited quite a few Mediterranean cities, the seaside of Sousse seems quite ordinary to me. However, the Medina of Sousse should be the most beautiful Medina in Tunisia. Compared to the Medinas of several major cities in Morocco, it is more rustic and quiet here, with no traces of commercialization. Strolling through the Medina gives one a sense of being forgotten by time. The Medina is small and can be explored in half a day. The iconic building of the Medina is the Great Mosque of Sousse, and the best viewpoint is from the Sousse Ribat fortress opposite the mosque. Climbing up to the watchtower of the fortress, one can overlook the entire Medina. At the entrance of the Medina is the old port of Sousse, with numerous pleasure boats and a plethora of restaurants and cafes. Taking a boat trip out to sea is also a nice experience if you have the time. Tips: Sousse is an hour's drive from Tunis, and it is convenient whether you take a train, louage, bus, or drive yourself, as the whole journey is on the highway.
