The Reed Flute Caves in Guilin are a stunning natural attraction that is not to be missed. The caves are named after the reeds that grow outside, which are used to make flutes, and have been a popular destination for tourists for over 1,200 years.
The caves are filled with a variety of rock formations, including stalactites, stalagmites, and columns, that have been formed over millions of years by the natural processes of erosion and mineral deposition. The various formations are illuminated with a range of colorful lights, creating a mesmerizing and otherworldly atmosphere.
Visitors can explore the caves on a guided tour, which typically lasts about an hour and covers a distance of about 240 meters. The tour takes visitors through a series of different chambers, each with its own unique geological features and lighting effects. Highlights include the Crystal Palace, which is filled with sparkling stalactites and stalagmites, and the Dragon Pagoda, which features a towering rock formation that resembles a pagoda.
In addition to the stunning rock formations, the Reed Flute Caves also feature a range of inscriptions and artwork that date back to the Tang Dynasty. Visitors can view these ancient carvings and paintings, which offer a glimpse into the history and culture of the region.

Cave Art in Guilin
The Reed Flute Caves in Guilin were one of the many stops that I made time for during a whirlwind three-day vacation. Located in the northwest area of the city of Guilin, the Reed Flute Caves are said to go about 240m deep. Within, there are a huge number of stalagmites and stalactites, stone pillars and more that form this humongous and stunning geological formation.
Of course, the rainbow lights that decorate every corner and surface of the cave really adds to the atmosphere, and makes it more like a work of light art.
In total, you will probably only need about 1-2 hours to tour the Reed Flute Cave, so it's easy to pack into a busy day of sightseeing.

Reed Flute Cave is a fairy tale
The reed flute cave is an underworld, at the entrance to which you plunge into a real fairy tale✨🧚♀️
Initially, visit this cave was not in my plans, for some reason I imagined it to be a very small and boring cave, where you can get around everything in 5 minutes. But it was not!!!
It turns out that the reed flute cave is the largest karst cave in China, its length is 500 meters and a depth of about 250 meters. And in order to go around all the "halls" it took an hour. I even managed to freeze😅
A special atmosphere was given by the multi-colored illumination of stalactites and stalagmites. So, thanks to the unusual natural beauty and bright lighting, this place turned into something magical✨
I was pleased that everything did not go according to plan and I saw such beauty with my own eyes!
It took around 30-40 minutes by taxi from the airport.
Ticket is 90 rmb per person.

Have you ever heard of the middle east folklore tale Alibaba and the 40 thieves; where the treasure 💰 is hidden inside the cave. What if I say, they do have a similar cave in China, well don't get ready for your gold rush 😛; it is again a folklore tale told in Guilin about the Reed flute cave with lot of treasure hidden inside. In my eyes, the richness lies in the cave's beauty itself; where it is upto your imagination to get the most out of it. This largest karst cave is located some 80 kilometres 🚗 away from the main city at the Lipu county. You can take a taxi and reach here; and the entrance fee 🎟 is 80 rmb. The flying waterfall 💧 section is a must see one; while the other sections gives you different perspective of shapes of the cave. A good spot to spend a day, if you're in Guilin. #chinatravel #couplestrip

Karst Peak Paradise.
From rafting down the Li River to hiking karst hills, Guilin is a great mix of city and nature. In just three days, I was able to witness the beauty of the karst hills in Guilin, marvel at the underground caves featuring huge stalactites and stalagmite formations in the Reed Flute Cave, hike up Diecai Hill for a magnificent view of the city against the multitude of peaks, as well as browse a local market and walk around Elephant Trunk Hill. There’s so much for explore here, and would certainly be worth another trip to uncover even more gems this city has to offer.

Guilin has the most beautiful karst landform in the world, and Reed Flute Cave is a concrete manifestation of this landform. One million years ago, Reed Flute was originally an ancient underground lake. Due to the elevation of the crust movement, the groundwater level dropped and the underground lake became a cave. After years of accumulation of rock calcification, it forms a variety of stalactites. Reed Flute Cave is an important part of the entire Lijiang River Scenic Area. It has the karst features of nature and the beautiful scenery of Guilin. The stone pillars, stone plaques, stone branches, stone flowers and stone waterfalls complement each other. It is called an underground art of nature.

Guilin 2-day tour.
Guilin 2-day tour|||Guilin's scenery is the best in the world, and Yangshuo's scenery is the best in Guilin.
Guilin and Yangshuo are karst landscapes, with beautiful mountains, clear waters, and unique caves and rocks. They are known as the "best scenery in the world." The most representative features are the mountains, water, and caves. The karst landscape of southern China, represented by "Guilin's scenery," has been listed as a World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO.
This time, I spent two days in Guilin and was amazed by the wonders of nature. The pace of life in Guilin is very slow, and the cost of living is low. The beauty of nature cleanses the soul, making you feel relaxed and less anxious.
I stayed near the Two Rivers and Four Lakes Elephant Trunk Hill Scenic Area. Here is my itinerary:
Day 1: In the morning, I went to Reed Flute Cave to see the karst cave. Although I had seen several karst caves before, the scenery this time was still quite amazing. It was a 10-minute taxi ride from the hotel, costing CNY 10.
In the evening, I took a cruise on the Two Rivers and Four Lakes, enjoying the Sun and Moon Twin Towers, the scenery along the river, various bridges on the river, Elephant Trunk Hill, and experiencing the principle of the ship passing through the lock. It was a 10-minute taxi ride from the hotel, costing CNY 10. The cruise lasted about 90 minutes and cost CNY 200.
Day 2: I took a high-speed train to Yangshuo in the morning. The high-speed train from Guilin to Yangshuo passed through a tunnel and suddenly opened up, revealing many towering and steep hills. The clouds were on the mountains, and the mountains were in the clouds, like a landscape painting.
After arriving in Yangshuo, I took a taxi to Xingping Ancient Town, rented an electric bike in the town, and went to the CNY 20 banknote photo spot. I rode along the river, feeling very comfortable, enjoying the breeze and the scenery along the way. Then I took a bamboo raft on the Li River, enjoying the karst landscape and feeling calm and relaxed.
That's my 2-day Guilin travel guide. The last picture is Guilin's famous rice noodles, which are smooth and delicious. Overall, Guilin's beautiful scenery lives up to its reputation and is worth a visit.

Guilin Reed Flute Cave
One highlight of our trip to Guilin was the Reed Flute Cave - entering it felt like a whole other world. My advice is to not take the train up (70 RMB). Everyone will keep telling you to scare you into buying it but in reality it's really not that far to walk, and you get beautiful views such as the waterfall posted. Also remember to bring a light jacket as it definitely gets cooler inside. The easiest way to get to the cave is to get a cab and walk up to the entrance.

| Guilin Reed Flute Cave.
The Reed Flute Scenic Area is located on the bank of the Peach Blossom River in the northwest of Guilin City, boasting the peculiar and exquisite karst landscape of Guilin's mountains and waters. It consists of Guilin's most beautiful karst cave - the Reed Flute Cave, the highest peak - Mount Hou, as well as landscapes of mountains and bodies of water such as the Peach Blossom River and the Fanglian Pond. Inside the cave, dense stalactites, stalagmites, stone columns, and stone mantles are forest-like, complementing the surrounding mountains, clear green waters, and swaying willows outside the cave, creating a naturally interesting scene; it has extremely high ornamental value.
Millions of years of nature's craftsmanship have endowed the Reed Flute Cave with a gem-like brilliant life. Unlike other caves formed by river erosion, the Reed Flute Cave possesses the breadth of a lake and the grandeur of a river, suitable for both motion and stillness, gentle and refined. The stalactites in the cave are like corals and amber piled up, earning it the reputation of 'Nature's Palace of Art'.

The perfect guide for Reed Flute Cave
Reed Flute Cave is a naturally occurring limestone cave that is located 5 km northwest of Guilin's city and has been a popular tourist destination for more than 1200 years. I've prepared the ideal guide for you, including all the details you require to see the Guilin cave promptly and effectively!
What the Cave has to offer: ⛰️
1. Walking into Reed Flute Cave, you will be amazed at how radiant the dewy stalagmites look like. The rainbow lights and dazzling array of massive natural formations compose a dreamy wonderland. Featuring a fascinating collection of stalactites, stone pillars, and rock formations created by carbonate deposition, many of the formations in the cave have been compared to recognizable shapes of mythological creatures and natural images🎨
2. Midway through the cave, there is a large open room that offers a periodic video screening projected onto its stone ceiling and a hologram display of a Swan Lake ballet performance. 🎚
3. In addition, their is a river in the middle, from which the rock formations reflect in the river to make for some beautiful photo opportunities.🏞
4. An extra fee allows access to an additional cave with two old turtles, but it is less impressive than the main cave.💲
5. On the way out, you will walk through a commercial area with souvenir sellers. Remember to bargain if you want to buy something.🛍
6. Outside the Cave, there is a small train to bring you up if you if you can not walk up the mountain cave. I suggest just taking a one-way ticket up and then walking down, but if there is a big line to use, I suggest just going up by walking. Also,on your way down, you will find a lake. Guilin feels much more relaxed given its spectacular setting among the jagged-peak limestone karsts that surround it.
I recommend staying in Guilin for 2 days. Walk, shop, and eat around the Daxu old town enjoying the food and the beautiful wall paintings. Go to the lake and see the magical Sun and Moon Pagodas.
Take a taxi to the reed flute cave to be mesmerized.
Finally, take a boat to Yangshuo and spend another 2 days there.

Guilin Yangshuo!! So comfortable that I don't want to check out at all
Living in a room with a beautiful view of Chinese landscape painting, who understands~ Every time I come to Yangshuo with my bestie, we always stay at this guesthouse.
Located inside the Reed Flute Cave scenic area√ Close to Peach Blossom River√ The experience is top-notch. I would be sad if any sisters come to Yangshuo and don't know about this place.
The location is really good. It's located inside the Reed Flute Cave scenic area, close to Peach Blossom River, and the location by the mountain and water is ancient trees by the window. A standalone courtyard hidden in the ink painting-like landscape.
It's very convenient from the city area, only 15r. It's quite far from the airport, it takes about 35 minutes to get there, a good place for short trips around!!
All rooms are floor-to-ceiling windows, lying down to see the beautiful mountains and clear lakes. Sitting by the floor-to-ceiling windows on the tatami tea table, drinking tea, chatting and looking at the scenery, there is a sense of hermit's comfort.
There are cruise ships right outside the door, surrounded by water on three sides, and mountains on one side. The feeling of playing with water and absorbing negative oxygen ions is really relaxing.
The service staff are super enthusiastic, they sent welcome fruits on the day of check-in, and will also help recommend restaurants and attractions. There is even snail rice noodle for breakfast, all made by local aunties, very unique.

The Stunning Limestone Formations of Reed Flute Cave
The mountains and caves of Guilin, Yangshuo and other places in China are made of limestone, also known as karst formations. These formations are made from millions of years of dissolving and redeposition of limestone by flowing water.
The variety of shapes and sizes of the formations is vast and will leave you wondering how they can possibly be natural.
What i found amazing was how silent it was in the cave. We couldn't hear anything apart from drips of water and it felt almost unnaturally quiet.

Guangxi Expedition
Guangxi has a lot to offer from mountains to Detien water falls and Minshi village.
🏞 Nature is what Guangxi is all about Detien waterfalls, Rice field in Guilin, and the cosmic Reed flute caves. definitely a lot to see
⛩ Ancient architecture is also very easy to see. many old streets and neighbourhoods can be found dotted around. Nanning the capital has a nice pedestrian area with old buildings. And Beihai has a good place to see an old colonial street with French and English architecture.
🍜 Food in Guangxi is a little sweet, fresh and light. coconut hotpot is a must try, as well as stir fried rice, with local steamed fish. Every town and city has a different way to prepare these dishes. but they are all very good!

Reed Flute Cave is located on the south side of the Taohua River in Guilin City, on the southern side of Guangming Mountain. There is a kind of reed grass in the original mouth of the cave. It is said that the flute can be used to make a pleasant sound. Reed Flute is named after it. The formation of
Reed Flute has gone through a long period of time. It was originally an ancient underground lake 1 million years ago. Due to the elevation of the crust movement, the groundwater level dropped and the underground lake became a cave. Later, the groundwater formed by the rain flowed along many broken belts in the mountain, dissolved calcium carbonate in the rock and became a solution containing carbonate and calcium ions. When groundwater flows from the rock gap into the hole, the carbon dioxide overflows and the calcium ions precipitate and crystallize. After years of accumulation, it forms a variety of stalactites. People praised Reed Flute Rock as a palace of nature.
In the Tang Dynasty, more than 1,000 years ago, some people came to visit Reed Flute Cave. The stone walls of Reed Flute left many ancient inks. Reed Flute Cave can be said to be the most net red cave in Guilin. Its title of "Guobindong" has made tourists screaming.
